HI All, heading to the lake quinault with the family in a couple of weeks. Decided to purchase an inflatable kayak so we don't have to haul the plastic navy through seattle hotels. A newbie to WA question. What laws apply to kayaks here? In Fl we have to have a PDF and whistle. Looking up laws here saw something about a boating ID ? Do i need some type of permit to kayak? what about my kids and wife too? thanks for any feedback to clarify.

Also, is it crazy to kayak at Lake quinault in april? I imagine its colder on there than in Yakima in April? thanks for your input!

You should take a look at WA Dept of Fish and Wildlife for the requirements of permits and regulations for kayaks and fishing.  Lake Quinault is also in the National Park, so it may have some special laws.  Also special around here are tribal lands - frequently, the state regulations are different than the tribal regulations (for example in Oregon, we need an additional permit beyond our state fishing license to fish certain bodies of water on tribal land).  Kayaks in Oregon require an invasive species permit, and boat registration over a certain length (or with certain motors attached).  Look up the laws for your state and body of water where you're fishing.  Good Luck.  April in the Quinault area will be a great trip!

lake quinault definitely does have some special rules above and beyond other lakes. ctrl+f "quinault lake" for more info: http://www.quinaultindiannation.com/Fishing%20Regs/lake%20quinault%20boat%20and%20sport%20fish.pdf

Don't forget to look through the For Safetys Sake threads.  Dress for water temp, not air temp. That water could still only be 55 degrees.
Besides PFD you'll need a light capable of being seen @two miles and a whistle.
