I've been thinking about buying a pedal drive Hobie and was almost ready to pull the trigger.  Now I'm hearing rumors about a pedal drive OK coming out this Spring.  If this is true I'd like to compare the two and buy the one I like better.

So this is a question for the OK guys in the know.  I'm not asking you to confirm the existence of a pedal drive Ocean Kayak.  Just let me know if I should wait for Spring before making a kayak buying decisions. ;)

I know nothing about a pedal drive OK, nor have I heard any rumors.

I haven't heard any official rumors.  But there was some chatter on the KFS board.

OK Fishing Team member John "Toast" Oast seems to be leading people on a bit in that thread.

Thanks guys.  That was probably the source of the information I was told.

I haven't heard anything either, but OK typically launches their new boat around June/July.

I really hope they don't have a pedal drive coming out.

Here's how it typically works.  OK announces new yaks in early July, a few weeks before the Outdoor Retailer tradeshow.  At that time, there is ultra-limited availability.  As production kinks get worked out, the first runs go to select dealers.  Well, Pro Staff usually get some too.  It's usually not until the next year that volume really ramps up.  So if you want to get on the water this summer, I wouldn't wait for the new models.

After seeing Wannabe pedal all around me without a paddle on his lap last Saturday I was looking at the Hobie.  But I've come to appreciate the OK's.

I'd like to get in one and try it for a day to see how my back feels after a few hours.  I know how my arm felt after 5 hours of jigging.

But a fully rigged yak is in my dreams and future I hope.
