Yeah, absolutely...sounds like if your in you need to be ready for a quick deployment on a short (how many hours?) notice.

I'd like to find the right boat first.  Right boat to me is one that has a good reputation, fishes hard, has the correct insurance, is laid out nicely to transport and launch kayaks, and preferably can do a multi-day trip.  Then I'd like to set a weekend 2 day trip and try to fill it here.  We'll gamble on the weather.  If it's nice, we go offshore for tuna.  If it's not, we have a plan B, perhaps inshore salmon or bottomfish.

Let's do this.  I'm stoked.

I will go down and take a pic of the new boat the charter company has. If the weather turns bad during the trip we could switch to bottom fish or salmon. those trips cost a lot less. While people are here for the tuna trip we could plan a trip to sunset beach. I'm sure roy would love to take a group out there!!!

Please get some good pics of the deck space and a measurement on it.  I'm assuming that's where they'd put the yaks.  If they have another spot, like up top, please take a pic of that too.  Also, a pic of the launch door and an measurement of how high the deck is off the water.   Pics of the inside too.  Pics of everything!!!  Do they have a dingy that can be launched?  On the Black Pearl trip we had a dingy to bring us more live bait (and a few beers too!).  Are they set up for live bait?  Pics of the bait tank!!!  Did I say take pics?   ;)

Thanks for the legwork on this.

the live bait ( assume this would be best for yaks?) drill is latter in the summer early fall.

The question I have is when is the best chance of getting the best weather and flattest conditions on the coast.

Can you narrow it down to best 4 week window?  Last 2 weeks in August to first 2 in September?  Or something like that ...

What plans would they have to stow the yaks while traveling.  The setup on the Black Pearl worked nice.  Made of PVC and zip tied to attach points.

Are the rod holders that are attached to the bait tank the only rod holders, or are there some along the side of the cabin that I can't make out?  They are in the way at the bait tank.

Would there be at the door down to the water?  That would be a tough entry and exit if there wasn't.

Any chance of dingy support?

I personally would love an overnighter.  More time on the water to figure it out.  And more time hanging with the boys in the evening sipping beers and fishing for squid.

August seems like the best for smaller waves.

Brian, any chance that you can overlay this with a similar chart for wind speed?

Mark,

I simply snagged that chart out of the report I linked to.  But yeah, I could create my own chart if I wanted to.  How important is it to you?
