Anyone thinking about going this weekend, may want to make other plans.
Water was at least 71 today, we got skunked on salmon and sturgeon, didn't see or hear about anyone catching from Swan down to the channel.
I did see one salmon splash on the surface, saw a few salmon and dinos on the finder, and LOTS of shad.
The shad should probably be your target species...
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

6/05 I met Codymonster155 on the water around 11. Surface temperature was 67. Trolled for a few hours a short ways downstream from the launch before the wind turned me into a sailboat.

Spoke to a few boats—one of them said they landed one chinook, lost a few, and missed a few bites earlier in the morning. Not sure how Cody did after I bailed, but he caught a random smallmouth or large crappie.

Marked several large fish throughout the water column, mostly around 16 to 28’ down. Pretty sure I also watched at least two large fish rise up and follow my lure before disappearing. Pink & gold 3.5 spinner seems to have not been on the menu today.

Heading out of Fred's early tomorrow. Another report had a similar experience today. Can't catch 'em on the couch. June has been decent the last few years. Fingers crossed.

PM sent.

With the weather cooling off I'd expect things to pick up soon, particularly if the water drops below 65.

I was planning on heading to the coast to do some surf fishing on Saturday but the conditions weren’t good so I ended up on the Willamette for a 5:10am launch. I personally saw about 4 or 5 fish caught by the power lines, then as I was trolling back up river, another kayaker told me he was aware of 3 or 4 more that were caught.

My back was starting to hurt and it was getting hot (65 degree water with 62 degree air and a drysuit) so I decided to call it a day. As I was literally right in front of the Cathedral Park boat ramp and reeling in my first rod, my second rod got hit and line was peeling, causing the clicker to scream at me. I hadn’t even finished putting away the first rod, so it was hanging off the left side of the kayak (which is my normal fishing side) so I was fighting the fish on the right side. I’m not too proud to admit that it was a bit of a struggle as I wasn’t used to it, but I reminded myself I just need to do the same thing as normal but switch hands.

Using my left hand to lift the rod, I used my right hand to scoop up a decent 11 pound chinook (after about 3 or 4 failed scoops). Happy to finally get my first keeper of the year.

Way to go!

I might give it one more try tomorrow or Tuesday.

What were you using?

Um, bobber and worm? ;-)
I was using a Brad’s cut plug with homemade tuna mix.

Cool.

I have a few of those rigged up, and always have them on hand, along with a can of tuna as a backup.  My go-to presentations that I have confidence in are: cut-plug herring, prawn shrimp spinners, and 3.5 spinners behind 360 flashers.  Maybe I’ll give the Brad’s a try, as they’re way cheaper, and less time-consuming.

When I went to empty the lure, the tuna was all gone, so it may have had some scent remaining to go along with the appearance... <shrug>

Good luck out there!
