I told the wife I would be buying a second kayak this year for her and my 12 year old daughter to paddle together.  I see them needing something more for the recreational paddling, vs fishing.  I figure when and if they decide to fish, I'll be out there with them, so I can tote their gear on mine.

After digging through all the yaks available, I keep going back to the OK Malibu Two XL.  It looks like it can be set up as a solo, double and even a triple (for adult and two kids).   Is there another model/brand anyone suggest I consider?

I like the Zest two EXP. I've seen a few families using them and they are definitely not short on room! Just over 16'. The three of you could paddle this one. ;D Will still be usable for two just a little harder to carry around since it's a bit heavier.

Yea I was thinking about getting myself one of those new Hobie pedal...uh...er....I mean...I think my wife deserves a kayak of her very own as well so I was thinking about letting her have my OKBG (beings how it's so stable and all, and I think she deserves the very very best) and of course I would have to try and find something not quite so big and fancy. ;)

Considered that one Zee, but I don't plan to ride with them, I have my own.  Besides that thing is way too long for my liking.  My son is small enough still to fit in the cargo area on my T13, or up between the sonar shield and front hatch.  When he gets to a point where he is too much for mine, and overcrowds the one the wife and daughter have, I'll buy a new single for the wife, and the kids can paddle the tandem.  :headbang:

I have an OK Malibu two XL. It works well solo or tandem. We have made some 6+ mile trips on it with my wife a nine year old a two year old and my self. I have also had it out in the ocean both tandem and solo with no complaints. Plenty of room. Its not fast, but it is faster then the Hobie koan, though not quite as stable.
Over all I would recommend this kayak to any one needing a tandem kayak for the family.
Enjoy the ride!

I'll be happy with it for sure ;D, as I'll be on my T13 with my boy, and the "Betty's" will be on the Malibu Two  trying to coordinate their paddle strokes. :boxing:
