Hello all! Like alot of folks in here I’m trying to decide on my first kayak. Last year I used my paddleboard to target Pink salmon and had a blast, but I want something that will be more comfortable to fish from and can cover more water. I mainly plan to fish the sound around MA-8 and 9, but would like to try bottom fish too in the strait. I have my eye on this field and stream talon 12, but I am questioning its stability for chop and currents in the sound/strait. Have folks used this boat out here very much?

Thank you all!

Harry

Welcome to the NWKA Harryie.  Can't help you on the talon12 unit.  Lots of great kayaks to choose from depending on your needs.  I am a believer in try before you buy when possible.

Welcome!

I have zero experience with the FS talon, but judging from the looks I'd say it's not ideal for something like the Straight.  ANY kayak will get you out on the water and on a calm day it'll probably do ok, but PS and the Straight shouldn't be taken lightly.  A seaworthy vessel and proper gear are HIGHLY recommended.  IF you're going to attempt the salt, I suggest looking at maybe one of the more common manufacturers/hull designs out there.  i.e. Ocean Kayak, Hobie, Old Town, etc.  Some handle the waves/chop better than others.

Good luck with your decision and hope you find exactly what you're looking for.

Thanks for the replies! I think I will keep looking, it's tempting based on the price but I don't want to be back in the market in a few months when I feel under gunned.
