Anyone here wear a helmet during surf landings?
I know our coast is peppered with rocks that could possibly mess up your hair in a "Huli" landing.   :o

Just curious if anyone here wears one?

I have had some impressive wipe outs.  Most of my launches are through unprotected open beaches, where going out or coming back in there are multiple sets of breakers to deal with.  Although rocks my be an issue, my head has yet to find the bottom when I huli.  What has rung my bell several times, drawing blood a couple times has been my yak.  A helmet would be smart but I just use my arms to protect my head and hope for the best.

You know what? I never thought of putting on a helmet, even though I always wear my PFD.

I have thought about the kayak cracking my head in a surf wipeout.  I guess the issue is if you know the risk, have measure to avoid injury and knowingly make an educated choice- individual responsibilty is in play.

Maybe I'll end up wearing a helmet surf launching and landing?  Besides if you get a helmet you have to mess with it too.  You can't leave it as it is right?  Mount a camera, a light, reflective tape, and a VHF antenna. Ha, ha, ha

What were we talking about?

Actually the only guy I've seen with one was in OC fishing with Wannabe. He paddled an OK Malibu 2 and surfed it like a rodeo boat. I don't remember his name but he had mad surf skills! (but this from someone who spends most of his time upside down in the surf ) ::)
