Below is a link that will take you to my favorite link (provided by bsteves) from this forum, Acme Mapper.  I've quickly added points in reference to the waypoints provided by HBH.  "A" is the campsite, "F" is begin/end, and the rest are his proposed fishing spots.

HBH's proposed locations on Acme Mapper

I'm all in, with the exception that if the proposed dates are 3/6/09 I can't safely go.  Just about any time after that and I'm all over it! What dates were you thinking HBH?

I'm a fan of doin' this in May.  Weather might be a bit touch and go, but having a mothership / tender makes that scenario far less dangerous.  I like the spot on the island, looks like a nicely sheltered bay.  Early May might also still assure less competition for the campsites.  They are first come, first served if I remember correctly?

That's my understanding.

Side note - I went by LFS Marine in Bellingham today, just for fun, and found out they have copies of Kayak Fishing Magazine for free!  I picked one up today, saw another 10 or so on the rack.  Don't forget to remind the checkout person that the magazine was in the free section.  Don't know how long this deal will last....

I think the group camping sites are reservable at Sucia.  Only the individual sites are first come.  And I've caught some watermelon sized ling just off the mouth of Shallow Bay on the west side.  Sunsets are better on that side too.

Did a little more investigating, and deepcolor hit it on the head.

Group Accommodations
Three group camp areas may be reserved by calling (360) 376-2073.
quoted from Sucia Island State Park

There is no running water until 3/31/09 on Sucia, other islands have water service returned after 5/15/09.  Campsites are open all year.  Just called and got a machine.  I'll call earlier in the next few days to check into cost of reserving group sites and see what other information I can dig out of the rangers.

more thoughts- i just remembered that there is a dock (for easy unloading) and a group picknic shelter, water and toilet at the west end of fossil bay...N48 45.132 W122 54.288...typically crowded in the summer but probabyl vacant in May...sucia is a great place to kayak cause there are so many coves and underwater structure and interesting shoreline to work with...a guy could probably spend a week fishing around the island and not get bored

This sounds like an awesome place for a long weekend of kayak fishing in the salt.

Doing a little more thinking and calculating.  If the mothership can't make it, or if we have too many participants, it isn't very far from the north end of Orcas to Sucia.  It's stated at about 2.5 miles.  That's about an hour at the rate I paddle in good conditions.  Better when I pedal.  This option, of course, has it's positive and negative aspects.  Positive: more participants, negative: ferry cost, parking, carrying camping gear in 'yak.

Just thinkin' it through. I'm not much of an organizer, but I have time to research this stuff at the moment and I'm jazzed for a trip like this.

this marina and resort is right at the north tip of orcas island...even has a live web cam...a possibility for more participants or a solid roof over your head at night or a hot shower every morning...a person could fly in also as the air strip is right next door...are we settling on the first weekend in May?
