Oregon Rockfish Classic 2025

Having taken a full round of antibiotics after having been stabbed by a lively rockfish while trying to CPR a few years ago I am not sure as others have mentioned that it would be an awesome idea, especially given ocean conditions possibly making that activity even more difficult. If it's based on length like has been done at AOTY I have no qualms about measuring a very dead fish when safely off the water. I wouldn't even be fully opposed to measuring a fully dead fish while on the water, but if the fish is dead and retained then on or off the water doesn't really matter much.

Have you decided on a format yet?  Single biggest? Slam weight for rockfish, greenling, cabezon and lingcod?  Something else?

Still in the works, but it'll likely be a CPR slam to more closely match international rules.

Measuring a lively 40+ inch lingcod on the water, and getting a clear photo, solo...could be quite the challenge. All the other species would be significantly easier though. Something to consider if CnR is a theme for the event.

I know you have a bunch of pet 40" lings off of Depoe.  They'll lie still for you.

Thanks Jim for reviving a great tournament.  I am excited to see it back and look forward to hopefully participating this year and into the future.  My wife is back in school so I am may be out this year as a 2 and 9 year old dont fit in the kayak  .

The year i caught 2 over 40 i had a difficult time getting them in the kayak.  As soon as they hit the net they would do a death spin often flopping out of the net only to have their gills tangled in the net.  I forgot my bat and it took me a long time to dispatch the fish with my bait knife and drifted a half mile while trying.  I couldnt imagine trying to keep a big spiky lingcod still for a photo.  i just imagine damaged dry suits and puffy hands lol.  Either way i will still do it- I may just bring special gloves and a mat for my lap when attempting to do so

Just a heads up.  Chinook Bend RV Resort on the Siletz River has been confirmed as the base of operations for this year's ORC. 

As in past years, they are offering a 20% discount to ORC campers. Just let them know that you're booking a spot for the ORC to get the discount.

In years past there have been issues with ORC participants who are staying elsewhere being charged an entry fee for the Captains Meeting and Events Ceremony.  This has been fixed for 2025.  All people associated with the ORC will be allowed to enter the park for free!  Just mention that you're there for the ORC and they'll open the gates.
