well this is interesting:

Step 1:  check the thrust and compare it to what I'm getting from my pair of ROV thrusters that can push my Outback about 4mph in calm conditions.
Step 2:  get approval from the boss (Mrs. rogerdodger)

Battery life seems awfully short, will be shorter pushing an outback than a paddle board too. Would you use a different power source? How are you thinking of mounting it?
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Interesting. Probably no way to mount it that's conducive with a beach launch and landing.
Could be nice on rivers and lakes though.
If the next version has spot lock then I'd be willing to try it out.  :banjo:

battery life is just Whr capacity and power, this thing at max is 400W and 20 lbs thrust.  2hrs at full thrust/8.75hrs 'trolling speed' seems reasonable with the 9.2 pound (820Whr) battery.

my Blue Robotics T200 are rated at 8.2 lbs at 12v (205W), so I appear to be getting 16.4 lbs thrust from 410 watts and I am seeing 3.5 to 4.0mph in the Outback (4.5 to 5mph when I add pedaling to full thrusters- drag on the new Outback hull goes up fast above 4mph).

so 20 lbs thrust from this thing isn't likely to move the Outback much over 4mph but the 6mph speed seems reasonable for a paddle board.

see attached, adding one of these fin mounts to the bottom of the Outback, just forward of the rudder seems easy enough, and for launches at Sunset Bay or the rivers and lakes around here, sliding the thruster on and locking it in place will be easy enough once the kayak is floating.  true beach launch is a different animal.

spot lock would be the cherry on top.   ;D
