that would be excellent and I think a bit early....I wonder if it's a bit like when Darlings Marina on Siltcoos posts that coho are being caught on about October 3.  lol

Haven't fished herring yet, but I'm considering trying to make it Saturday.  Worth it to bring a couple crab pots too?

Easiest herring fishing I've ever had was this morning. Soon as I launched from the non-motorized ramp at South Beach Marina, I marked schools of herring in 9-10 ft of water straight out from the beach. Sat there and caught my limit within two hours. Never had to move anywhere else. BIG herring this year, mostly purples and even some 11+ inch blacks! Smattering of blues and greens, but not many. I didn't pick up any "exotics", but other guys I've talked to have caught sardines, Pacific mackerel, and even a ratfish. Go get em!

Nice! Is the non-motorized South Beach Marina ramp the one by the cleaning station?

It's in the far SE corner of the marina area, right next to Rogue. Has a little ramp that lets you wheel your kayak down to the gravel beach on the right-hand side of the attached photo. I tucked up alongside the bare cement dock in the pic and got all my herring right there.

they were thick in South Beach Marina on Thursday, I never left the marina and loaded up a full 25# in a few hours, several 6 fish at once...easy to catch plenty from the jetty, boat/kayak really not required.

I like to use 4oz cannonball because I tend to get less sabiki cluster-knots with that amount of weight.

They're still in the south beach Marina this morning. Didn't even make it around the corner by the jetty where most of the power boats were. Plenty to be had straight from the launch.

I was right next to elstunar.  lots of fish for everybody.  Smaller Sabina worked better for me.  Tons of people on the bank and in boats.  After catching a good bunch I went around the corner and could barely maneuver to the marina exit.   Eyeballed 23lbs of herring with 2 sardines mixed in.  131 baits ready to be converted into Lingcod the next time conditions permit

PSA for the group.  Apparently in some circles it is not acceptable to process your herring in a kitchen.  I may not be going for herring next year.
