great build!  I'm now in the market for a granny walker!

I made something similar out of alum, tubing and the only complaint I have is the HB wheels suck in deep dry sand, that 50+ or so yards from the rig to the wet sand is a slog :(...  I am looking for wheels with a larger (wider)  footprint to float instead of plow.

Yeah, I'm thinking ahead on this one.  I wanted to get a cart done and on the cheap now, so I don't have to carry the kayak, nor have to launch it from the truck itself anymore.  The upside is that my cart handles two kayaks at once as is on hard surfaces.

My plan is to upgrade the tires with the 11.8" x 7" PVC Wheeleez with the 3/4" bushings, when the money tree is blooming again.

I'm sure I will be launching from grass, gravel, asphalt, hard dirt and such primarily and my current tires will suffice.  The Wheeleez will come in handy for the beach launches.

Out of curiosity, how well do the kayaks drag through the sand without wheels?

Go to Cape Kiwanda and you can drive up on the beach if you want.  Just turn right or North on the beach with the dory boats, if any, and put a kayak launch sign in your window.  Drop that boat in the sand and drag away.

Resourceful, clever and very cool.  Good inspiration too.  Thanks for the pics.

A loaded yak doesn't drag to well in the sand, especially up slope back to the car.  If I find cheaper wide tires I will let you know.  Those wheeleze are very cool (almost pulled the trigger myself) but there has to be something cheaper out there that would work,  even if you had to run them half inflated for sand use.

For some reason the Wheeleez seems like the only option out there for low pressure tires that are not over 12" tall, or really heavy.  Believe me I even went through the entire Tower Hobbies catalog (online) looking for R/C Airplane tires that would work.  The largest I could find were in the 6" range and dang near as expensive as the Wheeleez.

Ooooh, just had a thought!   :o

Stay tuned!

Man that is a really sweet  build...there has got to be some wider wheels somewhere besides the wheelez...but like those guys say it may be next to impossible to find

I don't stow my cart in my yak when I fish, I either stow it out of sight and lock it to something heavy (tree or large piece of drift wood) or put it back in the truck so weight or size is not an issue. I think something in the ATV venue ( off a kids atv?) or small farm implement area might be the ticket.

I have a 50cc ATV that has some small wheels for sure, but dang they are heavy, and not cheap either.  The tires run $50-$75 each and that doesn't count the rims either.

How about wheelbarrow wheels and tires? I think I remember hearing of someone using them, long ago. Garden cart wheels might work, too.

They are definetely cheaper, They are also much taller, without much gain on width.  Worth a try at least.

I have a "thinking outside the box" kind of approach spinning around inside my head a the moment.
If it works right, not only will it be seriously on the cheap, but crazy light too!

(Sorry, the voices in my head won't let me peep any details until the first testing is complete)  >:D

This is a great idea! Looks sturdier than the pvc types. I just found a lady that has a shed full of walkers. $5 for non-folders $10 for folding. Like the pneumatic tires. Think I saw some on Northern Tool. I checked the REI carts and all the under$100 got reviews that said don't waste your money. Yours looks really substantial. Going to haul a Scupper Pro. Hope you get the other "Wheel" option worked out.  :-*

Use skis instead of wheels on sand?
