Sorry for starting so many threads/asking so many questions...

Just won one of these on the big auction site and think I got a pretty good deal on it.

It had everything I want...color for visibility, single sonar and depth. Anyone use one of these particular models? I can't find much about it other than I saved about $100 because the seller labeled it wrong.

Don't worry about asking questions and starting threads, that's what this site is for.

As for "big auction site" and "seller labeled it wrong"... do you have the unit in hand?  I hate it when the description and picture don't match because  I worry that the seller put the wrong picture up.  Hopefully you got the better end of the deal.

Anyway, color is a nice bonus.  For me the price point of color has always been a little steep. I end up with the units much like the 141c but minus the "c" bit.  These small grayscale models cost ~$100-$150 that won't kill my wallet if I have to replace them (I know, they say they're water proof but they aren't designed for kayaks).

Here's the humminbird product information for the 141c.  Included on this page is a link to download the manual.

Thanks, Brian. I'm not sure why I couldn't find that page on the Humminbird site.

The title on Ebay was "Humminbird Color Fishfinder." Anyone looking specifically for a new 141c, like I was, wouldn't have found it.

Supposed to be new in box and I paid less than $125.

Now for a rod holder or two and then I'll have myself a drillin' party.

Gotta get a paddle first so I can figure out where (not) to mount the holder.

Also learn from other members' mistakes and flash's of genius. Our members have come up with some great solutions.

Got it in the mail Saturday. Took it out to play with it and can't wait to set it in the boat. I got it all ready to go, then realized I didn't have any marine grade epoxy. Should be a neat little unit and I can't wait to get it set up and get out on the water.

What are planning to use the epoxy for? IMO, it's not a great product for an adhesive on PE boats.

PS is right. Marine Goop is what you want. A flexible sealant and adhesive.

If you can't find "Marine Goop", I'm pretty sure any version of "Goop" will work.

Yep, especially Plumbers Goop as it's almost the exact same formula.

Goop is goop is goop, Any of them, including E-9000 will do fine.

The manufactures instructions are not intended for polyethylene boats (our boats). Epoxy will work, but it will pop off on the first good bump. There are a ton of ways to get it stuck down (use the "search" button with "transducer") but I have had great success with simply a quarter sized dollop and let it set overnight (been stuck for 11+ years)

On the other hand, why not try a dry fit first and see how it works? Just jam it tight to the hull with a piece of pool noodle (yakfisherman's duct tape). That's been working really well for me for the last 3 years.

While most of them will probably work, there is the best tool for the job. Each has different ingredients to make it better suited for a job. Some are more flexible and some are UV resistant etc. etc. I figure do it right the first time and you have the best chance of it not crapping out on you when you go on that road trip. ;)

Your probably right Z, but that 11+ year old gooped down transducer (which I'm claiming to be the first to have used goop and posted it) is stuck down with plain old goop that I had in my glove box.

And don't get me started on "the right tool" argument*. If we went with that, all of our boats would be relegated to Caribbean Hotel tourist lagoons!!!!! :angryfire:

*even though you are correct and it is quite valid.

Epoxy is to help the screws stay in place.

I could be wrong bad lattitude but i believe the goop is more of a waterproofing and corrosion prevention solution rather than to hold the screws in place...but i imagine it does help with that
