Much love to Hobie, I realized i had a crack in the hull of my Hobie, right in the drive well. It was hard to see but i was getting more water then seemed right in the hold. Took it down to my local yak shop(Sunset Sports, Thanks Jack). Jack took some pics and sent them to Hobie. Three days later (today) jack calls me and says, i got good news for ya, a new boat is sitting here in the shop for ya!!

It's an '09 model with the good stuff too! I figured they might send an new older model but no, fresh out the mold new beauty.

So, get a Hobie, you'll be glad you did!! Not only the best fishing kayak made, but awesome customer service too..

Thanks, Hobie!!
See ya on the water..

yea, it was warrantied.Hobie has a two year warranty on the hull, but they could easlily just send an  older new one or repair it. I think because it was cracked in a high stress area, that prompted the replacement.

Still have the old one but had to cut the serial number out of it..

Do you know what caused the crack?  Seems worrisome that the material would fail due to stress so soon.

pretty sure it was some sort of defect, don't think it is a very common problem.

That is really good to hear on  the service, Both the Hobie dealers here at Sunset Sports and Central Coast Watersports in Florence are great!!!  Nice to have a boat the manufacture will stand behind..
Have it rigged yet ? Put rod holders on my Revo today,  and trying my other seat in it.

Good deal CBY and glad to hear you're on a new yak. Another blue one? Pics man, pics!! ;D

The older Hobies had problems with cracks that developed in the drivewell. It was due to the torque put on that area when pedaled hard. It's not something that happened one every hull but one's that were used regularly sometimes had the issue. The new one's ('06 and on) have all been taken care of and have thick reinforcements there. I've yet to hear of the same problem in any of the current models.

Yep! What CBY said!

Same situation, but I had an '06 Adventure (perhaps it was an early '06 Zee?)  Same crack (tiny), but leaked like a sieve  (I believe its an early model condition caused by stress from the drive)

Like CBY, I brought it to my local dealer (whom I did not buy it from), he took pics, and a couple weeks later my BRAND NEW 2009 Adventure was waiting for me at their shop. I picked it up just before I came back to PDX this time. Unfortunately, there are no reconditioned boats. From what I understand, they strip them down and grind them up to make new boats.

Another Cudu for Hobie for their mold engineering.  I helped the guy at the shop strip the boat and almost all of the tie downs and deck loops are variations of a drain plug and screwed into threaded blind holes cast into the boat. I assume they had screws standing inside the mold and removed them before popping out the boat. Very Cool! The result is that the deck fitting are very easily replaced and do not penetrate the hull.

Yes Zee, new and blue!!

mine was an '07 so must just be a fluke defect..

DAn at Hobie NW says to make sure the drive is all the way down in the well, otherwise it puts way too much torque on the well ends.  Dunno if with the 2009 models it's  possible to have it not in all the way....

Yeah it is possible. I actually did it the first time out. Keep an eye on it.

Right on Hobie.  And props to good customer service, which is a lost art these days.  Was Sunset Sports where you bought it originally Zee?
