I was looking for suggestions on a fiberglass safety flag setup like the kind you would put on an atv. I've been looking online and it seems like Cabela's has a good deal on a 79'' setup. Anybody have any creative ideas or pics on this subject?

I have a sketch of PVC parts to make one that fits in the OK flush mount rod holder.
I am just waiting on the NWKA flags.

Nevermind, picked up one at Joe's. I like your idea though, way to be resourceful. I just posted on the NWKA flag thread - hope that works out.

Ok, here's how the finished product looks.
I attached a small PVC coupling fitting with an end cap and used stainless steel clamps to attach it to my existing home-made rod holder rack. Drilled a hole in the bottom of the end cap large enough for the bolt on the pole to fit through. I wrapped the bottom few inches of the pole in electrical tape and foam insulation strips to the point where it fits snug into the PVC fittings.
I simply slide the pole into the fittings and twist on the nut on the bolt sticking out the bottom.
The flags will have to do for now, I hope I'm not inadvertently sending a message by using a orange pennant above a red square. I think it's funny how C.O.D. put "Red Flag" on the flag. Guess they were thinkin of us colorblind people!

The extra tubing is a rack that I made out of a bunch of PVC fittings, PVC pipe and some stainless deck rail mounting fittings. It serves a couple of purposes. It has an extra two rod holders, a scotty mount is on it for my light or fly rod holder and I made a fish sprayer which is mounted on to it as well to spray down my catch if it's in my rear tank well(doesn't get much use  ::)). Since I already had this rack made, I figured it'd probably be the best place to mount a safety flag. I have a better pic of the rack with the sprayer running in my pic gallery. Yeah, I know, I have way too much time on my hands! ;D

Heck yeah, I love talking about that stuff. I actually can't take full credit for the idea, it was one of the guys I worked with at OEX down in San Diego that gave me the idea, except his was ALL metal, ran off a separate pump, a separate battery... So I simplified to better fit what I wanted, but yeah, got bored one day and spent way too many hours in Home Depot and that's what I came up with. I guess I could start typing something up and I'll shoot it your way for sure at the very least. I guess it's probably a good idea for me anyway to write down ideas instead of having them floating around in my head.

If you ran a tube further back into the water, you may have the first homemade kayak jet drive.  May be faster than pedaling or paddling.  You still would probably need a rudder to turn though. ;D
