Watching the OPB segment of those folks in Beverly Beach reminded me of how well a double can work for kayak fishing. I know the conventional kayak industry often calls them divorce boats, but we are not conventional kayaks. Having someone else to paddle to make small corrections can be pretty nice (not to mention the bump in speed) and an extra pair of hands can be very useful as well (picking up an anchor in current comes to mind)
I have fished in my inflatable with my teenaged nefew (sic) in Louisiana and that worked pretty well (as long it held air ::) ) and we caught a lot of good fish.  I have also paddled that boat at Sellwood with my cousin, We did not get to fish (AIR!*#?@!!!), but it balanced and paddled well just before it sank and he is just a bit smaller than me..
Anybody else tried it? Any thoughts?

(no it did not sink, we went in when one sponson got soft)

I recently picked up the OK Malibu Two XL for my wife and daughter (same unit as the one on the OPB bit).  It may very well be a combo yak for her and I as well for your exact reasons stated.

Once my son gets too big to fit in my T13 tank well, he and his sis get to use the Malibu together, and the wife will get her own kayak.

I've actually considered building the Pygmy triple (20', SINK).

Could hold me, the wife, and my youngest. Would balance well solo, with me in the center cockpit. Janni could sit almost anywhere without affecting the balance. Could probably easily make waterproof socks to fit the empty cockpits, for fish and gear storage.

At 19' waterline, it would have an incredible top speed.

I have taken my daughter out fishing in our Malibu two XL many times. I mainly let her do the fishing and I paddle, bait the line and manage the fish that she brings in. It is a great way to go with a younger angler. I have tried taking her out with her running solo on one kayak and me on the other.......tandum is the way to go.
Enjoy the ride!

From what I have seen the power to weight ratio can be a limiting factor when launching though the surf. Gatorbait may be able to chime in on this better than me ;D
