I'm in the welding program at Chemeketa Community College in Salem and we're in our last term before getting certified. We have this class called "Weld Shop Problems". The purpose of this class is to get the students familiar with some basic metal shop machinery and safety practices. It gives us the opportunity to build whatever we want, but if we have nothing to build we have to literally work for the instructor on his own personal stuff, which includes a couple trailers etc. I would rather make a few kayak carts than work for him so I'd like to know if anybody wants one. If you have your own thoughts on a design you can post here or you can send it to my email address, which I will give via pm. I will only deal with people who are trusted by admin. I'll need to know what type of wheels you want to use (for the axle) and what type of cart you want. Most likely, I'll be using well known carts as models as apposed to just coming up with my own design. All will be out of aluminum unless somebody wants otherwise.

You can either pick your cart up in person or I can ship the frames and you can buy your own wheels elsewhere or w/e you prefer just gimme some ideas. I realize I'm most likely not trusted by admin or anybody else yet so we'll have to figure something out if you want things shipped. I will not overcharge on shipping like people do on ebay (hate that) and I'll give an honest price for materials and such. I'd like to make a small amount of cash on each one but not much, maybe $10. I'm thinking these things will cost a max of $50. That may be waaaaay high, I have no idea.

Just thought I'd throw the idea around.

Hmmm, thought I'd get some action buy now. Maybe it makes more sense for me to just build a couple and post them here.

Sarge: I'd love to see what you can build. Make it foldible enough to stow in a hatch and match it with the fat Wheeleez-style wheels and you'll get some action.

I'd love to see what you can do. Post some pics, please. Thanks!

Hey Sarge, it's tough to sell an idea.  Show what you're capable of.   ;D

How about welding up some drift anchor brackets for a T11 and a T13?  I wish I could weld ...

Send SBD a PM or an email.  He should be able to point  you in the right direction in terms of parts.

Just curious how the cart is coming along.  Any luck with it?

Seems I'm back to my old ways, laaaazy. I need to go and pick up some material and find some wheels for my use. I'm not going to use wheeleez wheels, too expensive for me. I thought about using "Big Wheel" back wheels but then I'd have to buy a "Big Wheel". I think Harbor Freight pnuematic wheels are best for me anyway. I get out early on Fridays so I just need to remember to turn the other way.  ;)   I usually remember half way home and turning around at that point just isn't an option! Anyway, I'll post when done.

Saw that pulley at Coastal Farm and Ranch today.  Didn't catch the price though, sorry.   :-\

Seems I saw an outfit, maybe online, something like Wheels-R-Us or something simple, that might have stuff worth looking at.  Harbor Freight works for me too.  Whatever it takes.  If I find some wheels I'll post it.  Interchangeable wheels might be cool.  Let the man decide what works best for him.  My other main concern is my "funky hull" (dihedral).  It may need a universal tie down option.  Good luck with the project.

Went by the place i'm gonna buy the material from and they were closed, figures.

I thought all the tie down options on the name brand carts were universal. What kind of kayak has a "funky shape". Time is flyin, I need to get started asap.

Went to the buy material and didn't find what I need. Looks like this might not happen. I'm trying to buy used/recycled materials since I don't have much money. I post back if anything changes. I have access to a tig welder so even if I don't get the cart done in my class I can still build it down the road somewhere.
