Wanted: Fishing in Clallam county Must like to fish from a kayak and not talk much ;D. Good attitude, no egos, and good sense of humor. And because my fishing ops are sporadic most be ready to on short notice.(Translate into when the wife cuts me lose and the kids have no sports going on)

OK talk a little. So when is someone gona move out here to the O.P. I am tired of fishing alone. I see alot of yakkers and I see alot of anglers but no kayak anglers.
Gona try to convert someone this weekend. Most of the time they see what I fish from and they think I'm nuts. That maybe true but its still fun. I need some one to push me to go out and fish more.

I know the feeling,   I live on the hood canal  and I have only seen two others fishing out of kayaks since I got mine.  I am working on recruiting another one also.  I am thinking of heading up your way this year for halibut in discovery bay.  I do most of my fishing down here in mason for the same reasons you have mentioned,  kids and getting time from the wife.

I feel ya. Even in the Seattle area there's few of us. I can count the times I've seen other kayak fishermen on one hand. But there's more and more of us signing up everyday and if the recent trend in membership keeps up there's gonna be some up your way soon too.

BTW Hali in Discovery/Dungeness Bay? Count me in!

I live in PA also, AND tomorrow I'm headed to Kent to pick up a pair of Native Watercraft Manta Ray 12's for the wife and I.  She has no interest in fishing from hers, but I plan on doing as much as I can get away with!  I'll just shut up and fish, no jabber-jaw, and certainly no ego.  Just have to get the new yaks and rig mine up.  Oh yeah, and figure out HOW to kayak!  Never owned one before... ;D

I'd make a trip over that way for an overnighter, especially once it warms up..... it would be nice to have a stringer of blacks.  I'd feel like an Oregonian for a little while.  ;D

Same situation here. I feel like the Lone Ranger here. I see other paddlers at times, but I have no paddling fishing buddies here.
Sometimes I take my Ultimate 12 along when I visit my folks in Sequim. I want to go camp at Lake Ozette and paddle/fish there.  I've had it out around the mouth of Sequim Bay...great paddling there.
Unfortunately, I am hitting my busiest time. I'm self-employed, running a small landscape maintenance service, and i'm so busy right now with that and other stuff that I'm probably fishing alone until after the 4th of July. Mainly out of the necessity of being able to make snap decisions and say "To Hell with this crap! I'm going fishing!" and then move swiftly to swap lawn care gear with fishing/yak gear and head to the water. >:D
I can cut myself more slack after the 4th.

I have a yearly Memorial weekend fishing trip to the OP every year. It usually doesn't include the yak though, I have done mostly shore fishing/hiking trips.
Memorial weekend is usually fair to good weather except for the wind. These trips are more adventure then fishing although the fish usually do make a good showing.
Last year with the heavy winds lead me to surf fish from the protected beach just North of La Push. Not much in game fish but the barred surf perch are plentiful and a min 12" up to 18".

I have fished the ocean shore from each end of Ozette and I was surprised to find rubber lip perch in these waters.
My favorite spot on the OP is Cape Flattery. It costs a bit more because you have to buy a use permit from the Makah but the adventure of using ropes to lower yourself down to the toes of shore yield nice lings, cabezon and black rock fish.
I would never want to kayak down there as you have to be against the rocks to get to the deep water.

Hali and possibly lings in Dungeness and Discovery bay might be the ticket this Holiday, I'll have to brush up on the regs to see what days we are allowed to fish. Might have to move the holiday up a few weeks.
Keep me in the loop and lets see if we can get a group together if anything just to keep you from being so lonely ::) ::) ::)
Can you scout out campgrounds and or places to stay.

Kurt

What are you using for surf perch bait?

Just joined this site today ..live in Sequim, Have fished from Surfboards,Sailboards, and now kayaks....
I copied and pasted this from my reply to Salmon Intercept post....
"Hobuck Beach on Makaw bay at Neah Bay is an easy place to launch and there is a nice campground there....The kings get there first
Fished there 15 years ago off a sailboard and never caught so many lings and rockfish in a single day.
When I lived in Sequim I fished a lot at Freshwater  Bay...Protected until you get outside of Bachelor Rock...That area usually peaks around July 15..
Biggest problem is finding no adipose cause the Elwa Skallams sometimes forget to clip their fins if you know what I mean.
I live in Birch Bay Village( Best crabbing in WA state)  and Sequim ...Hope to fish Neah bay (Mukkkaw Bay, Skagway etc.) this summer...
Always good to have 1 or 2 wingmen...although I almost always fish alone..
Finally found a site for the Plastic Navy ....I also am an IFish and Bloody Decks member.. I recognize some names here already..."
I live  by Sunny Farms in Sequim and have fished most spots on the southern side of Juan de Fuca..
Am still learning to navigate this site but am ready to fish for Salmon when it opens...I have 2 OK scupper pros, OK drifter angler, OK scrambler, and a OK caper plus 5 sailboards that I used to fish off of....PM me....

Welcome to the plastic Navy Jigmaster!

Hobuck! is that the large grass area campground with the beach right behind it? Last time I stayed there it was only $10 and the grass is thicker than a futon. Great bargain and fairly quiet.
That was probably about 5 years ago and the surf was probably about 2ft. I wasn't yak fishing yet so I didn't even think about this spot as a launch.
Sounds reasonable as once you get about 50ft out it seemed to flatten out (surf wise). Could be entertaining watching the fleet launch in some surf!!!!

Sure wish the Hood Canal bridge was open.

When do you think the kings will start showing?

Thanks for the Welcome Fishbyte....Here is a link to Hobuck Beach http://www.hobuckbeachresort.com/   I fished there before they built this resort...Prices have gone up but with the 10 rockfish and 2 ling limit it makes it worth it especially if you fish 2 days
This is a crescent shaped bay where there is usually always a place to launch...Use Google maps to see the way Makaw bay is laid out..
Kings should be there in July..
If not you will have the best close to shore rockfishing you have ever done.
There are 2  live Cams at La push that will give you a rough idea of the swell size before you make the drive...  Here is a link to OP Cams ....  Click on First Beach and James Island cams http://www.forkswa.com/WebCamsontheOlympicPeninsula.html
I camp in my Van but would be happy to split the cost of a cabin to have a hot shower, heater and  stove...I'm getting softer in my old age...

I usually try to get out to the OP at least once a year for fishing as well.  Early intercept on the kings sounds like the ticket-- Rob.
