I saw this product in L.L.Bean catalo It is a combo lock that fits into the trailer assembly on most trucks and has a combonation so you can lock it. You put your keys and C.C. in so you don't have to carry them with you on the yak and risk losing them. It is like a little vault sells for around $60.

I bolted one of those  white push button "hide a key" things (they sell at home depot)  to the frame rail of my truck.   I use it more for hunting, everyone I hunt with knows the number so if someone gets an animal and needs the rig they don't have to search down the keys, just punch in the combo and go.

Why not bring them with you? I usually just put them in a dry bag and throw them in the hatch.

I reduce my keyring down to just the key and small multitool.  Then they go in my mesh pocket of my waders against my chest.    I haven't been in the yak in the summer months yet, so I'm not completely sure of where they'll go if I'm wearing shorts and tank top.  Somehow, if I  were ever separated from the kayak, whether it be blown away or sunk I think I'd want them attached to me regardless,

I toss mine in my marine plano box behind the seat.  I've looked at those hitch plug things and I have my reservations.  I have had issues in the past with those roll-type combination locks once they've been exposed to the elements >:(

I keep the ignition key on a second ring, attached to the main ring. When I leave the car to paddle, the ignition key gets clipped into a zippered pocket on my pfd. I figure that the pfd is the last thing I'm going to be without.

Maybe a back-up key would be a good idea though...

I wear my ignition and camper shell keys around my neck on a shoelace. Same thing when I go surfing or snowboarding. My friend had his 4Runner stolen when some thief watched him stick his key in one of those magnetic deals; when we went out surfing, the dude stole his truck.

I keep mine in the Yak hatch as well.
If we fish together and I get eaten by the Man in the Grey Suit...please load up my Yak and drive the truck home to wife.  ::)

Yeah, many eons ago, an escapee from Kaneohe State Hospital stole my Toyota from Sandy Beach when I was out bodysurfing. He saw me hide my key. He was joyriding around, enjoying his freedom, when he got pulled over by the HPD.  I got my car back all covered up with black fingerprint dust.
After that, I always tied my key into the drawstring of my trunks.

i'm very lucky i listened to the old hands here when i 1st started.. and am a bit paranoid regarding my property...

i lock up the truck and put keys, wallet, fishing license etc, in a 1 litre or smaller dry bag, which gets put in the hull and leashed to a scupper tube.. have huli'd numerous times and not lost a bit of it yet.

i wear my old army issue dog tags around my neck in case i ever get to that point.  theres enough information there to ID what may or may not be left of me..

i have a small locking carribeaner on my key ring that i attach to the little d-ring in my pfd pocket. i'm always afraid i'll dump them out of a dry bag digging around for snack or the camera.
