Many of y'all have rod holders, the launch tube types on your milk crates and live wells.  Where did you get them?

Yeah, I agree with steelheadr.
When I used a milk crate, I just zip tied some pvc tubes on the back of it. It's a bit ghetto, but it works great and really cheap!

I have no problem with "ghetto", but I like the slot for my spinning reels.  Cutting a slot seems difficult.

yeah, it can be a pain.
I just used a high speed drill with a grinding wheel. That can get messy though, nice to have some goggles.

Another vote for PVC/ABS

I did mine with a manual jig saw.

PVC.... like pool noodles the universal tool.

It makes good holders for anything. and i used a small key hole saw with a pvc blade on it.. hell if your really inventful you can actually cut PVC with fishing line. takes a while but the heat melts the pvc.

I cut slots for the spinning reels with a Dremel tool sanding attachment. It took about 90 seconds for each pipe.

Thats what I use on my plano, can't see why they wouldn't work on a crate, perhaps with a backing plate.   They work great and have held up so far.

Seems like a grinding wheel would get too hot and melt it doesn't it?  I like a jig saw and a hole saw for slots in PVC (or anything else on poly boats come to think of it).

The other really trick tool for yak pimpin is a deburring tool. Home Despot usually has a cheap version of one that will do the job in the plumbing department for about $10 bucks. It is worth its weight in gold! Its great for carving off a bit of PVC or plastic at a time.

You drill or cut the hole slightly undersized, then open it up with a few turns of the deburrer.  It works especially well for cutting holes in the boat. You'll end up with a dang near water-tight seal with no goop! Its also great for sharpening that tubing that you used to cut grommets. No kayak pimping kit should be without it.

I suddenly realized, "Doh!  I have a radial arm saw."  In quick order I had 4, 17" long, 1-1/2" diamter, PVC tubes with slots.  A dremel cleaned up the bottom of the slot where the radial arm left it chisel-like.

Life is good.  Thanks, all.

Why not drill a hole in the PVC where the slot will end, and then cut your slot from there out with a jigsaw?

Even faster would be to pinch your PVC between two boards of equal height. Set up a guide fence, and hit the PVC with a router.   May also want to clamp the opposite end of the PVC down to the table.

don't forget to try this idea from jim sammons.

http://www.kayakfishingtales.com/

look at the menu on the right side, under rocket launcher.

if you have trouble getting the video portion of the page to load, and are using a version of internet exploder, look up at the right side of the url bar where your stop and refresh buttons are. you should see a page icon. click that. it's something M$ calls a windows compatibility viewer feature. the page should refresh, then you should be able to see all the video stuff and get it to function.
