Rod delaminating

Had a bubble that progressed to a small portion delaminating.  How do you fix this?

Hmmm .. let's see, an old rod, given to me, which isn't manufactured anymore.   Not sure sending it back will get me very far.  Next idea ...

I'd try epoxy and vacuum bagging it. That's typical technology for composites. Sounds like it was probably a dry spot in the lay up.

I've never seen a rod delaminate, unless it was the instantaneous kind under severe strain.

Sorry, I'm probably using the wrong terminology.  I just have the outer epoxy peeling back.  Do I have to do anything special to prep the region?  What type of epoxy?  Turn the rod while drying?

Then washing the location with some isopropyl alcohol and maybe a light sanding with some fine wet/dry paper. The epoxy type would depend on what the part wasting away looks like. If it's a thin layer, you'll want an epoxy that's thin; if a thick layer, then a thick bodied epoxy. I'd probably stay away from the 5 minute epoxys and try to find some laminating epoxy.

I have the same thing happening to an old Shimano Clarus.  I'm not really worried about it.

If it's just on the surface, it may not even be epoxy that's coming off. Epoxy is UV sensitive, so it may have been coated with a clear sealer after the guides and wraps were put on. Not sure how you would figure that out with out talking to the manufacturer.

In the past I've used Hard as Nails just to cover it up so it doesn't start splintering.  You could also use superglue.
