Here's an example of why we are so excited about the Heroes on the Water Program and what y'all can help with. You probably won't have a ton of wheelchair participants, if any.

We have had two tournaments to support Heroes one the Water. The latest was the Virginia First Annual Unnamed Unknown Kayak Tournament set up by yakattack and supported by KBF, WKFA, and TKAA.

This is what it's all for.   While they and the other HOW volunteers work hard for these guys, here's what some injured soldiers were doing on Sunday  31 May.

These three guys have obvious physical wounds - Spine injury, double leg amputee, and burns. Tons of folks have no outward sign of injury, but have major internal injuries and/or PTSD/TBI. Pretty cool to see the smiles. All great guys with amazing attitudes.

Having HOW and the great volunteers is ijsut a small way to show our Soldiers how much we support them and appriciate what they have done for us.

I am looking forward to June 20th

These guys are the inspiration and coordination behind HOW.

(to donate to HOW.)

Please also consider donating (or loaning) kayak fishing equipment to the local chapter at Ft. Lewis.
We have a HOW event on 20 June and could use all the help possible to get these guys on the water and on a few fish.  If you would like to sponsor a wounded soldier for one of our events or if you would like to come to Ft. Lewis and host a kayak fishing clinic let me know.
We are still looking for Kayaks for our June event so if you are willing to part with your chariot for a few hours one Sunday PLEASE let me know.
Thank you.  Brian

I am always a "give locally" kind of guy. As much as we need money for the national organization, your local chapter needs it more. Danita and Brian are taking this on on their own and can use any and all help. Both are employed by the government and don't have a bunch of money to put into this. That is why y'alls support is so important. All donations are tax deductible. You can donate on the main site and designate it specifically for the Madigan/Ft Lewis Chapter. Best thing to do would be to send it directly to them.

They still need kayaks!!!!  We have been working with Ocean Kayak  to get some boats, but not sure that will happen in time.

Thanks for everyone's support. It was amazingly cool to see the guys out on the water with their family. The one guy we were helping get in the boat from the wheelchair had a wife, helping in the pic, and 3 young kids. It was pretty cool seeing him in a yak with a young daughter sitting with him, another young daughter with his wife in her kayak, and the 13 year old son in another yak, all hanging out and fishing together. The mom grew up on the water and had been around canoes and small boats all her young life. This was the first time her kids had had a chance to get out like this. Her son told Mom, "Now I see why you keep talking about enjoying the water and the outdoors so much!!"

Most of these folks are pretty broke because of all of the medical things they go through and have to have. Adaptive vehicles, homes and all the other things we don't think about. They are extremely grateful for whatever we can do for them. I'm pretty much a Texas redneck bass fisherman, believe in personal responsibility and taking care of yourself,  but you can't help but be moved by the attitude and the stories. They are taking care of themselves as much as possible. They just need a little help.

I am looking to put a pre-fishing event together for the 20 June event.  This will be on either the 13th or 14th of June.  We can have a BBQ afterwards at my house if people can stick around (just bring your appetite).  Also, this would be a great time discuss future HOW events.

We can do it that day.  I can work get that day off and we can all meet at Lake St. clair.  I would like more people to be familliar with the lake as possible.
Originaly the plan was to have 1 guide for 5 or so soldires but if i can get it down to 1 guide for 2 soldiers/family members it would be great!

So.  Pre fish in the Am...we can do a lunch bbq them move out to The NW adventure center and meet the guys/girls.  at 1500.  Sound good?
