I bet my 5yo daughter beats us all.

I hope so! How awesome would that be?!

I'm not sure where I'll be fishing yet either...depends on the reports and how crazy it gets on the water or launches. I'm bringing a new kayak fisher so it will need to work for him too. I was thinking maybe Snohomish on Sat. and Stilly on Sunday if it is too crazy on the Snohomish or the fish don't  show. But in any case, I'm planning on meeting you guys for the BBQ and will bring something to contribute.

Polepole,

So... are you eligible to win that kayak this derby?  Nope, I'm thinking "no" cause you're one of the judges.  So how about Mountain Man?  Aren't ALL of the O.K. reps. disqualified from winning an O.K. kayak?  Okay, then what about Freestone?  It seems like since she's a Wilderness Systems rep., she would simply disqualify herself just cause it would be so dad gummed awkward to accept a new kayak from her competitors.

Hewwwieee!  That new Trident is nearly as GOOD as MINE!!!  You know, what with hardly any qualified competitors and all.

If at first you don't succeed....  maybe skydiving is just not for you.

Too smart for his own good. First, he forgot about me, the best unsponsored fisher in the west, then he forgets about all the stuff he forgot in my vehicle. T left way more than he thinks he left... >:D... he'll see it after I get my boat.

So I'm still planning on hitting Langus tomorrow.  Sunrise is at 6:54 so I think I'll try to show up around 6AM or so so I can hit it at first light and get a couple hours of fishing in before I need to go  work the booth.  Will be on VHF channel 69 if someone wants to hail me.  Or you can try my cell if you have the number.

And as previously stated I'll be back at Langus some time after 4PM to BBQ it up.  I'm bringing shark meat.

I think I'll start out at Langus and see what's available there Sat morning. If it's silly w/ boats and no room, I'll be off to other spots but can't miss the barbecue. Anyone like beer? ;D

One note for those of you who haven't fished the lower Snohomish: Don't drink too much coffee in the morning as there are really no good places to get out except at Langus or Rotary Parks. Even if muddy banks are showing, do not attempt to get out unless you find a rock or log as the mud is usually deep sticky mud. You might consider bringing an extra empty bottle...or is that what you guys use the scupper holes for!?!

Oh really...
Really?
Oh, man.  I hope Jesse did well.
Paddling a new Trident?
Biggest fish of the bunch?
All with that easy, sly smile.
 :D

While I am sorry we could not be there with you guys, I did get myself a tasty little 5 pounder to bring to a friend's for dinner last night.  Boy, was I the hero.  She loves fresh salmon!

What a day! ;D

I am now the proud new owner of an OK Trident :o  However, I did not fish off of a kayak this weekend, instead fishing from friends drift boat...still human powered!

We fished the Snohomish, up river of Snohomish, using chrome Dick Nites with chartruse tips.   We were unable to fish the exact spot that we wanted yesterday because a boat was blocking, though not realizing the possibilities.  We got out early to make sure we got the spot we wanted, got out in the dark and waited about twenty minutes for it to get light enough to fish.  I caught my big fish (14.46#) on my second cast.  I was stoked that the human powered division wasn't won with a small fish!  I ended up with 13th overall.

I fished with my friend Bob, who I met recently at the Sportsmans Warehouse in Burlington.  When I first meet him and mentioned that I wanted to learn how to fish the rivers out of my kayak, he was stoked!  After speaking to him for a bit I found out he was a guide.  After meeting Jeff up in Moutcha and talking about the value of guides when learning how to fish new waters and/or fish I decided to try it out.  So Fishdog (Darren) and I hired Bob to take us fishing.  We fished the Snohomish using Dick Nites as well, but at the time we caught pinks...lots of pinks.  (Especially Darren...he was on fire!!!)

After speaking with Bob a few more times, and trying to coordinate some fishing trips, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse...to fish with him on his boat.  I am most grateful for what I have learned from Bob about fishing for salmon using Dick Nites. (Thank you Bob.)  I look forward to fishing the rivers using Dick Nites for the next while.  It is soo cool to catch a pretty big fish on a teeny tiny spoon.  I would never have thought or tried to fish for salmon using such a small lure.  We were using lite rods and line (8-10# line) and long leaders.  Seemed like the longer the leader the better, but that also lead to difficulties at the boat.  We learned from loosing lots of fish yesterday (Bob must have hooked up with 15+ fish) going 4 for 4 today.

Bob brought in the second largest fish in the human powered division.  Luckily for me he fishes from a drift boat so he gave me the paddle.  Stoked!  Bob won the largest fish  ;) out of an Alumaweld so he won some cash for that.

One of the best days of fishing in a while, plus the excitement of winning stuff!  We were done fishing by 7:30 and I came home with three beautiful fish, a new rod, paddle, and a Trident.   YES!

Thank you Allen and Jim for putting the category and prizes together.

I plan on hitting the Snohomish this week so if anybody is interested it would be fun to fish with someone.

Cheers!

-Jesse

Picture of Bob and a nice one!  Also shows the boat.

(The one picture I have on my camera of myself with my fish is blurry, I need to get them from Bob. )

Espiga,

Well, of course there won't be any kayak or paddles won, but I wouldn't mind trying to pick up some fish like those.  Does Sat. work?  Or was it pretty full over there on the weekend and so a week day is called for?  I don't know if I can really do the week day.

Well here's my report for the tourney.

I GOT SKUNKED!! :'(

Oh man, it was a tough one. I started out w/ Pole2, FishinT, and Richard from Idaho. We trolled from O'dark thirty and cast a few inbetween. I was on the flyrod and got no love no matter what I threw at them. We started from Langus Park went down the river a good mile and then back to Langus and a good mile up and then back. Pole2 had to leave for work duty at the  OK tent and we fished on. Richard and I ended up with nada while fishinT pulled in a Sculpin and a small Cutty. Pole2 came back after work to try again but I heard came back w/ nada also. Tough first day. I skipped the barbecue that evening so I could build some WAF for Sunday which would be a full day for sure since I really wanted to catch something.

Sunday we went to Picnic Point on the sound since we head there was a pretty hot bite near there all Saturday. We launched again at O'dark thirty w/ millions of other boats. It looked pretty silly with all the boats out there. Most of the boyz went out and mixed it up with them trolling and I chased around what few balls of herring there were with the flyrod. I caught a few sole when I went a little too deep but unfortunately other than that I got skunked... :'(

It was good to see the boyz at the awards and Espiga to win the Trident. He put on a solid performance so can't be mad about that.

I'm gonna fish this soon since that skunk smell needs to get off me.  :-[
