Is there anything from Port Orford south that approaches the ease of launch on good days at Pacific City, other PO itself? Trying to find a calm, safe spot on the south coast that is relatively easy to reach from the Rogue Valley.

I have fished off the coast of Brookings at Harris Beach. There's a set of stairs to get down to the beach, but the launch isn't too bad. I also wanted to try launching out of the harbor but I didn't have enough time. I'm sure there are other forum members that may be able to point out some more spots, but I can't imagine any better spot in that area than at Port Orford.

hmmm, not sure where you mean when you say "frankport" I have never heard of it.
no easy access to Mack Arch from a Yak, but there are trails down to the beach if you are adventerous enough to pack the Yak that far. Paddling out to the rock is easy after that.
If you want to drive to the launch, I would suggest Mill Beach. You can drive down to the sand and drag the boat a few yards to the protected cove and fish for rockfish, crab, and an occasional Calibut that slips into the sand bed there.
Chetco cove is the next protected pocket just South and is accessable by paddling around the point or walking a trail from the top of the hill once again.
This is my favorite spot, as it is a mile or less from my house and has very good fishing areas. submerged pinnacles, deep crevices and kelp beds. I have only been skunked one time at that location.
Simply paddling out the mouth of the Chetco and fishing just North is very good and simple to launch. I have a private dock for us to launch from in the port of Brookings-Harbor, courtesy of the Chetco Cove Yacht Club. Oh yes, cold tap beer in the clubhouse a few steps from the launch as well.
I think I have it pretty good here. ;D

Box: That's a sweet setup you have with the yacht club! Need to get a bit more time on my yak before I try the salt, but sure look forward to it.

fishboy,
if ya like fresh only.... when you launch from the Port, just turn up river instead of paddling out!
The Sea Run Cutty's are here now. ; ;)
