Yeah. Sorry to hear about that. All the best to the family. They didn't mention what type of clothing he was wearing. But he was wearing his PFD so so far so good. That is a pretty rough patch of water there.

The weather Wednesday morning started out beautiful and calm, but rapidly changed for the worse, gusting winds and big surf. Could be he was unable to get back in time or was taken unaware its suddenness. My prayers for him and deepest sympathy for those who knew and loved him.

This is an extremely sad occurrence!

Hopefully the resources of this board and its members will help to keep these types of accidents to a minimum.

I spoke today with one of the beach patrol officers for the stretch on which this unfortunate indivudual was found.  His 1st words for me were "You know what you're doing?"  and then went on to tell me that he doesn't want to see another dead kayaker wash up on the beach.
I asked for some more info. to share on the board and he told me that the guy had bought his kayak 10 days prior to his death.  He also said that he believes the guy was fishing ,though they never recovered his rod.  According to the officer, it was definitely a Sit on Top yak and the gentleman was not dressed for immersion.
Later in the day I sat in Seaside and watched as a pair of gentlemen who were barely dressed for the conditions tried to figure out how to paddle and beach land a Cobra Tandem.  One managed to get back in after a huli, the other swam in.....
In the time I was there (between 3 and 4PM) I also saw 3 different kayak fishers head out.
