Has anyone fished out of Illahee State Park.   It's supposed to be good for crabbing, just wondering how it the flounder or salmon fishing is there.

As long as there's sand on the bottom anywhere in the sound is good for flounder (sole). Very easy to catch and tasty. Put any 1-5" flashy lure down there, jig, and you'll get 'em. Crab is a little harder but the best way to find out is throw some pots out. Salmon is a lot harder and is gonna take an investment of time to research. But this internet thing is wonderful and there's a lot of helpful information out there. Start w/ salmonuniversity.com

Thanks Zee,
Well we decided to head out yesterday afternoon.  Not to bad for just winging it.  3 sharks, 10 dog fish  (I think, flat head catfish looking thing).  The Crab were mostly small.  The majority of them were Dungs with a few Reds here and there.  Only had 4 keepers..

The sharks you mention are commonly known around here as spiny dogfish (link to wdfw site Spiny Dogfish).  You mentioned catfish, and I'm taking a total stab in the dark, but did the other fish look something like one of these? Pacific Cod or was it another fish pictured on that page?

ok so the sharks were dogfish.  No the other things were about 6-8" very flat head, it had two spiny things on each side of it's head and the fins were hard like a catfish as well.

Can you eat the dogfish?

It was probably a sculpin of some sort.

For example, this is a staghorn sculpin..but there are a lot of different sculpins out there.
