Does anyone know what the state means by "fin fish" There is no definiton in the regs for it. But Have a closure of finfish in freshwater bay after June 1.

Then what are black bass classified as. Rock fish or bass. I had an old guy tell me this week end that they are classified as bass not rock fish. I have always thought that they were a rock fish and the book I have says the same thing.  If they are classified as bass then you can only take two of them.
The old guy said that youcan get fined over $200 dollars if you take more then two.

Anyone?
Matt

Two?  I've head of 1, 3, and 10, depending on where you're fishing.  Where are you getting the information on 2?  Has something changed this year?

Well thats the question, if they are classified as "bass" and not rock fish the regs say 2. If they are classified as rock then its 10.
This old guy that stop by a yard sale I had was telling me about it.

Page 98 of the regs, Unclassified Marinefish-daily limit 2 per species of fish.
If classified as bass I think they would fall in this catorgory.

I believe technically they are rockfish.  I don't believe there are any true saltwater bass commonly encountered up here.

Lots of folks out there have no clue- ???

Page 102 in the new regs has a picture of black rockfish, which they also say are sometimes called seabass or black bass. (I've heard them called black seabass, or BSB).

"Finfish" as opposed to "shellfish".

Where you are, your first rockfish is your only one allowed. From Slip Point west to Sekui R. mouth, your allowed up to 3, if at least two are blacks. MA4 (Neah Bay) is much more liberal; 10.

Look at pg 102. It shows those Black Rockfish and also has a definition that they are called seabass or black bass. You can call them what you want but those are rockfish.
Kind of like how Kelp Greenling are called seatrout.

Have fun with those bass.
