The PVC sturgeon snare as described here, uses a line tensioner to hold the tightened loop from slipping.  I am having no luck in finding these things.  Any suggestions or actual sources?

Only Wussies and Californians (I know, redundant...) use sturgeon snares.  >:D

Seriously, you can't convince those guys down south that...

a) You don't need two barbed hooks on a steel leader to catch a sturgeon
and
b) You don't need a snare to land one.

What is the alternative?  Cram your hand in their mouth and hoist from mouth and tail?

You'd be amazed at how docile those beasts are once you've played them out.  When they're ready to land, they'll litterally turn belly up.  At this point it's pretty easy to slip a stringer thru their mouth and out their gills.

If it's close and you need a better measurement, you can litterally pull them into your lap.

Just make sure they are still belly-side up when you pull them on your lap  ;D
