nah, i already knew some from having brahs work for me in army.. plus at work now have 3-4 local boys, so can easy.

have been getting serious crash course in local customs and true hawaiian language from Ahnko Ji, former state DLNR supervisor for public boat launches [ i'm not doing the man justice with that simplified description, trust me, i know. ] to say that i've learned more in these last 2 weeks from my interactions with the group here, and Ji in particular, than i did in all 3 trips previously, is an understatement.

btw, "ruthless", Cory Routh, will probably be doing a small series of articles on the folks here, including the 2 days he spent with Ji and Boogie D, who runs a north shore guide service.

yeah, but by attempting to force this down the throats of the Hawaiian fishermen, well pretty much the whole population of the state, it's violating both the state constitution and at least 2 treaties with the native Hawaiians.

what happened to peoples right to self governance and the feds upholding their word of treaty?

NOAA needs to stay out of this one. the people here seem to be doing a lot more, and a lot better, on thier own, than the Feebies ever will.

ROFLMAO...  Feds....  **Snort**  Upholding...  **Chortle**  their....  **GAG** word...  **Bucksnort** of...  **Bwahahahahaha**  Treaty?

Yeah right....  How is "Free Medical for Life going?" that was promised when I joined the Army, if I served 20 years, going?

I suspect the Native Hawaiian's should be able to get the same rights as Native Americans in the other 49 States for fishing.  It is ther non-naitve Hawaiians, who will get stuck with the fees....

The Hawaiian Legislature can amend the Constitution, and if they let the people know that they are going to pay the fees regardless, and the choice is to the Federal Coffers, or the State, knowing the Kine in Hawai'i, you can bet they would prefer the State keep the dough local.

It's my understanding, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the native hawaiian population is not recognized as an aboriginal entity.  At all.  Zero rights as are provided to other First Nations peoples regarding land and sustenance resources rights.

This subject is touchy with my family.  My mother is 1/2 native hawaiian, which in most situations would provide me with rights.  I know there is an active campaign to change this discrepancy, but it may be too little too late.  According to some old figures from an Office of Hawaiian Affairs meeting attended by my mother, the statistical chance that there will be any 100% native children born after 2011 is almost zero.  The native population is doomed to absorption.

totally agree with ya . RE: the free for life medical care.. i think it's an absurd travesty that the Congresscritters can walk into a place like WRAMC and get immediate treatment for free when they should be paying for it like anyone else who walks in the door.

i think thngs will pretty much go as you forsee. at least, with the size of fight in the people i've met, it should.  add in the groundswell thats forming again for spearation and soveriegn statehood for the state and things are gonna get interesting here.
