Well it's no secret that mother nature just isn't going to let this rockfish tournament happen. Although the weather looks to be really nice the swell is just too large for it to go off safely. The alternate venue was planned to be at Yaquina Bay but the swell will be shooting right through the area with any decent rock fishing. So very reluctantly, the ocean is a no go.

That leads us to plan C: A trout tournament at Big Creek Reservoir where it should be a nice and sunny day chasing trout, or plan D: A insane raffle and tailgate at the campground w/ a fun fish at Big Creek Reservoir.

So vote for your favorite and let's make the best of it.
Thanks.

Plan B for sure.  But could we mix some LMB in there?

Also,  could we have BOTH an insane raffle-tailgate at the campground but leave first, second and third place prizes alone for a trout/bass tourney?   (maybe work in the bass like you would the coho?)
Brian

Oh is which reservoir are you looking at 1 or 2 (both?)

We've gotta include largemouth!   ;D

From the 9/9/09 Oregon DFW fishing reports:
Quote
Big Creek Reservoirs 1 & 2 (Newport): Offers fair largemouth bass fishing, slow to fair angling for yellow perch and bluegill and good year-round angling for rainbow and cutthroat trout.

Zee - I know you're working hard to make this happen.  Thanks for all the effort you're putting in!  Even with the change in venue this event is gonna Kick Ass!

The format will be the same. ie. We'll all launch from the same launch and land point, heaviest fish wins, top 3 fish get prizes and raffle open to all.

Not sure about LMB's unless we're all cool with kill and eat.

Bring along a Live Bag/Cooler/Bucket/What Have You.  The reservoirs are small enough to paddle back for a weigh in if you catch a lunker.

Why not open this up to all species in the lake?   ???  If I'm taking it up the yang (using vacation time and  $$) to drive down there when I can do the same thing 5 minutes from my house, I'd like to fish for something I actually want to fish for that I can't get close to home (channel catfish).

Is this lake open 24hrs or is it a dawn to dusk lake?

guess i'm gonna have to read up on trout fishing and Big Creek

I'm open either way, but think we should stick with the tournament format since that was the original intention

Is fishing limited to only one of the bodies of water or all 3 that make up the reservoir?

fyi, from ODFW

Fisheries: From February through early June approximately 11,000 legalsized rainbow trout are stocked in Reservoir 1 and 20,000 in Reservoir 2; they are usually available into July. Naturally reproducing yellow perch, bluegill, brown bullhead and largemouth bass are available year-round. Check ODFW’s Web site for Youth Angling and Free Fishing Day events at this location.
