Since the ocean doesn't want to play fair during my scheduled vacation time, I am going to milk Hagg as much as I can then.   I want play around more with some of the fresh water lures, jigs, and worms that I have recently acquired.  I pretty much suck at fresh water fishing, so practice I will do.

Anyone is welcome to come cheer me on, or heckle me any of these days.   ;D

Plan to launch from ramp A, and be somewhere in the "wake zone" towards the dam.

I have to wait till the kids are off to school tomorrow as my wifey wants to go with me.  So, I'll be out there roughly 930ish.  BTW, the park doesn't open till dawn if you were planning to hit it earlier than that.

I'll likely be paddleboarding out there in the PM.  If you see a dude on a prone board, it's me.  Come say hi.

okay, so I wimped out this am - ocean conditions didn't look all that great, and so I decided to sleep in.

Might hit up Hagg this PM, or more likely Thursday am

Yeah those ocean conditions where looking kinda tight for the small window of opportunity given.  The wife and I made it out to Hagg today and hit the water around 945am.  Flat smooth clear water!   Very very few boats out, and clear skies.   We paddled over to the dam where I landed a 14+" largemouth.  I'll be updating my AOTY points when I get off the home PC and onto the laptop (that's where the pictures are stored).  ;D

Funny thing happened.  Remember I mentioned a tad bit ago about two guys from work picking up two new kayaks each?  There was a 3rd guy from a different shift that over heard me chatting about kayaks that went ahead and ordered one too.  Well, as we were paddling back to ramp A to take out, he comes walking down the ramp in his new shiny yellow fishing PFD, pulling a nice clean stone colored Malibu Kayak Tandem Pro2 on a homemade PVC cart.  I didn't actually know it was him until I got close to the dock, where he had pulled the kayak up onto.  He worked his way down the dock and pulled the cart out and strapped it to the rear deck.  He looked perplexed as to how to get the kayak in the water, and then how he was going to get in the kayak without flopping in the drink.  I waved at him when he looked up, so I then saw a sigh of relief in his face.  From there, I talked him into sliding the yak into the water and pushing back down towards shore where he could easily get in.  He started out in the front seat, where that clearly wasn't going to work well for him.  Talked him into putting the seat in the rear spot and the helped him get his seat adjusted correctly.  Now it's time to learn to move the kayak around.   He had never paddled any craft ever at this point.  Showed him how to get his paddle feathered and why it works that way.  Got him paddling pretty well right away, and then he was off to the dam to get some fish.  We had to take out and get home for the kids.   As we drove back towards the dam, I thought I would give a look over the wall and see how he's doing. Turns out he looks happy as a clam out there, so we went ahead and drove home.

Oh, and yes I'll be back out there tomorrow to see if I can find some more fish.  Need a trout for my AOTY points.  Today I forgot my worms in the fridge.  :'(

I'll try to be there at first light, ramp A, headed towards the dam for those that want to fish with me.  8)

I'm dropping the wife off at work in the AM, and then heading straight to Hagg.  Will probably be on the water at 630ish

So, The Nothing and I met up at Hagg promptly at 630am this morning and had the ENTIRE lake to ourselves for at least an hour.  I guess there was a pair of guys on the bank by the time we slowly paddled down to the dam.

Before I get too far ahead of myself..... Back at the launch, The Nothing breaks out his rod and tosses a popper into the boat launch a few feet from the dock.  Wham!  First cast, fish on!  Looked like a spunky little bass for sure, and promptly spit the lure at TN once the fish got a good view of him.  ;D

Anywho, we diddled around throwing all kinds of bass lures at the water down near the spill way end of the dam.  Nada!   I got bored of this, and switch over to small hook, and chunk of worm to play with the blue gill.  Caught several of them right away.

TN went on a few trout trolls, while I drifted down the dam looking for anything to hit my bait.  Just the little guys.   Got bored so I tied up to go troll for trout too.  After a pass or two, TN decided he needed to bail out  around noon, and go get his wifeypoo from work.  I continued to troll and eventually hooked a dink of a trout. Didn't even know he was back there, until I reeled in to reworm the hook.  Guess I was towing him for some time, as the hook had ripped a good hole in his upper lip and promptly fell out upon lifting the fish towards the yak.  Gone!  Dang it, wish I could have got a picture for my AOTY points.

Then I decided to just troll the south side of the lake near shore.  Found an underwater island that I had paddled around before (when the water was WAY lower).  WHAMMMMMM!  Line peeling and pole jerking.  WTF is this?   I toss my paddle in the water to my left side, and pull the rod out of the front holder.  Immediately the fish pulls my yak around to where I am reeling straight, and not over my shoulder.  It goes on several dips and dives, and finally gets near the surface.  HOLY CRAP huge SMB!!!   Thick monster.   I get my net ready and with the freaking long troll gear, I'm having a hell of a time trying to get said fish into said net.  Almost!  Almost!  Damn fish go into the net already.  Nope, instead it goes over the net, and the line catches the net frame and *SNAP*!!!  Dang it, lost this fish AND my lure!

I am so going back over to that side tomorrow and fish the hell out of that area.  I want my lure back,....oh and the fish.  ;D

TN, same time?  Same place?

I know that fish all too well.....
Wound up with an upgrade but the fish I was looking for was easily 20inches and 5lbs..... Had a dozen hooks broken off in it's body.  Missing an eye it was and thick as it was tall.  When it launched from the water, it's dead eye would turn to you and take you in, like it could see thru to your soul. Aye.

-Spot-

I'm heading out there on Saturday with Spatter and Snorlax to see if we can't get a harpoon or two in her.

Nice day, but not very fishy.  I was able to finally bag a trout for some points.  Seriously need to work on triple digits here.  >:(

Water was smooth most of the day, and no rain.
