Any interest in fishing for something Sunday afternoon? I'll be in Portland for a fundraiser in the morning, hopefully done around 1pm. I plan to tie the yak on the roof and get wet after that. Sturgeon, salmon, steelhead, trout, bass, bait...I just want to spend a few hours on the water.

Ideas?

I work till 2, but I'd be game.

Can fish around Ross Island for bass (gotta pay to park though) or drive 10 minutes to Lake O for sturgeon and bass, or even Sellwood for sturgeon and maybe some salmonids (both of which are free parking)

Bass would be my recommendation.  Since sturgeon is closed on Sunday, unless of course you don't mind releasing a keeper ;D.  The bass have been on the bite for the last couple weeks and are nice and aggressive as the water temps are dropping.  Fish the current seams.

Know any spots on the upper Willy for that?

How about a bassy afternoon out George Rogers Park? I'm thinking I'll hit the water around 2pm, float down for a bit and then follow the incoming back up.

Maybe I'll take an actual AOTY photo of a fish or two this time...

Well.....as I seem to tell my wife WAY too often, it was a nice day for a paddle.

The Nothing and I hit the Willy at George Rogers Park bright and early at 3pm, just about the bottom of the tide swing. It actually took a bit of effort to drift anywhere. We started by tossing everything, including the kitchen sink, along the rocks just downstream of the park, not even a bite. Jeffro even paddled out with a passenger and a rod for a bit.

With no slimy fish love, we headed upriver to try the shaded east bank along sturgeon alley. Fishing in the shadows on a bright and sunny 60 degree day isn't exactly warm but I managed to keep going for another 90 minutes or so. As we worked the rocky bank, I finally took a hit on a brush hog and boated a nice 14" fish. With Hawg Trough in place and as the camera was being readied, the slimy floppy bastard decided he'd had enough and wanted to breath. A flip or two of his tail and he was back with his buddies, probably telling tales of a bright sunny land filled with plastic.

I didn't get the photo but The Nothing said he got a picture of me trying to take a photo of the elusive creature known as a Willy bass...

Well.....in 2 weeks, I'll actually have a Saturday to fish locally and a Sunday to fish the coast. Maybe I will be able to add a few chunks of flesh to the freezer once more this year. Either way, it'll be a nice day for a paddle.   8)

It was nice out. Was good to meet Jeffro, who rushed out as soon as he saw us out paddling around in his backyard.

Just unfortunate for that fish loss....
