Been meaning to post a photo but have never had time... so here it is, a shot of my kayak (with a cargo of fresh trout) from a Mount Hood Lake on Sunday:

I'm pretty happy with the rigging... the Eagle Cuda 240 depth finder is my favorite gadget now.  The GPS is nifty, and pretty handy for making spots I want to troll repeatedly.  I am using a small 12 volt sealed battery that I picked up at the Batteries Plus for power.

I had an issue with my rod holder being a little low, and my foot hitting my rod handle while pedaling the Hobie... so I got an extension that boosted it up.  I found the holder worked fine with my fly rod, I don't see a reason to buy the special "fly rod" model of the Scotty rod holder.  I rigged up an anchor trolley last week, but I have not gotten much use out of it yet.

3Weight -

I just started on mounting my new Humminbird Piranah on my OK Big Game.  After I punched the hole to run my wires I'm wondering how to "finish" the hole I just made.  I can see where your wires go in and it appears the hole has some type of grommet around it?  Can you make any suggestions?  Yours appears to be a much tighter fight then mine is working out to be.

Tomorrow is the transducer mounting!  I'm a little nervous but want to get it under way!

Anyone else with suggestions on the hole finishing is welcome to chime in as well.

Bluknight-

I know that I've seen the grommet issue dealt with on the http://www.ncka.org/ board. I think it was Kzreels that posted the info. I recommend checking that site out for all kinds of rigging details. Some of those guys have been at it for a while, and collectively, they've come up with a bunch of slick solutions. Some of the issues that they've dealt with include; transducer mounting, lightweight rechargeable battery packs, sealing wire grommets, anchor trolleys, sturgeon snares, and more.

Good Luck!

Nice work 3W!! ;D That's a nice ride. And nice job on the fish! woo!! You'll need that trolley when you get anchored and there's some current.. it's invaluable.

Blueknight, about the question you have I used a big rubber plug that I cut up and made to fit. I used the tutorial @ hook1.

Very well done! Just be extra careful when cutting the plug.. I had a few close calls..  :o

For sure check ncka.com. Especially our resident badass rigger insaneduane. Actually if you ever need to figure something and want the advice of the master rigger give him a PM. Check out some of his insane creations @ http://fishingmasterbaiter.com

I found a plastic adapter designed to allow wiring to be run through marine bulkheads (at Fisherman's Marine).  It works perfectly, much better than the grommet set up I tried before.  Holds the wire securely, and a drop or two of Goop makes it a water-tight seal.

I will try and snap some photos of it and post em.

I've been using those soft foam tiles to make grommets by either cutting them out with scissors or punching them out with a piece of conduit. For my ff, I sealed the grommet to wire with goop, but used a "squish" fit to seal it as it passes through the fishfinder base. I modded the base of a rodholder to fit the ff/gps so it can use any flushmount rod holder base, and lets it tilt and rotate. One less hole in the boat and not glueing it in place lets me mount the ff in any of the rod holder bases

I like the ff mount between my legs of access. In the other spots, it was a bit out of reach and I did'nt use any of the features. Now I use the mapping almost as much as the depth finder and I can actually use the tide functions.  Works pretty good!

Nice work on the mount! I've gotta check it out next time we get together. I think my Revo has the same hatch cover and I was thinking it would be a good location for a ff but couldn't figure out a good way to mount it.

 Fishesfromtupperware

Question for ya: With the FF in between your legs....how would you subdue a big fish...like a Halibut or a salmon? I always believed the that keeping the area between your legs - clutter free - would be easier for anyone to handle and secure any type of game fish.

Just wondering....

By the way, I wish all kayak manufacturers would include side pockets like you have on your Hobie. ;)
