I just purchased the "Cuda 250 FF" Hooked it up to my Black & Decker 14.4V Cordless Drill Battery with a in line 3 amp fuse... It works, I will be playing with the features while sitting on my rocker recliner for the next few days!
But I'm not sure how I'm going to mount the unit under my OK T-13A's sonar shield?
I'm considering mounting the transducer in the hull with a foam puck cutout to the size if the transducer and goop it in.
But the I saw this on the web: http://www.captdick.net/NEW%20PRODUCTS.htm
I wonder if this would be a better option as apposed to the goop, due to the fact the goop can absorb some of the pings from the transducer? But I'm not sure if the transducer will fit in the humminbird base? ???
What do you all think...

Thanks,

Chuck

goop the foam in place, not the transducer. fill with water before you launch. Costs a WHOLE lot less.

Pick up a ~$3 gardening pad from wal-mart.  Cut it to fit the transducer tight.  Glue it to your hull.  coat the inside of the foam because it will likely be porous and slowly leak out while your fishing (mine was)

When picking a location, make sure it's easy to fill it with water.  Don't ask me how I know.

If you have time and desire to drive out to Forest Grove (Oregon) this Thurs, or Friday I'd be willing to help you out.  I have lots of the closed cell foam that we can hack you a piece to use.  Then copy how I mounted my Cuda and ducer.

It's funny how Lee mentioned to mount it where you can easily add water.  Mine reasonably located, and I can fill it once I'm actually out on the water.  It's not a direct over the top kind of reach, but more of a reach under the sonar shield area to add the water.  Up until recently I've been using a Sham-Wow knockoff to add my water, but I just put together a plastic syringe with a small tube to use as well.  Even better!

Why would you mount the transducer inside the hull when the T13A provides a built in scupper mount?

If your eyes are still young and your arms are long, under the Sonar Shield could work for you.  Otherwise you might consider mounting the FF on an extension arm as shown in the photo.

D,

I like the extension arm idea.  Any problems getting the arm out of the way for transporting, etc. ?

Thanks for the kind offer!
I've found some good links here that that gave me good info to make me feel confident to give it a try on my own.

Thanks again

The arm pulls right out of the Scotty compact flush mount I installed between the sonar shield and the rod pod.  Actually I installed two, one on each side per INSAYN's (?) example.   The arm is a RAM ball extension.  A RAM adapter slips into the Scotty mount with a rather loose fit.  The plastic Humminbird FF mount is bolted to the metal mount and the FF slips on and off the plastic mount.  I never remove the arm, though it would be trivial depending on how you route your power and transducer cable.  If you are interested I have all the part numbers around.  The RAM catalog is pretty confusing.  The RAM gear is solid metal and robust.

Price and (more importantly to me) drainage are the two reasons I chose to puck mount my 'ducer.  I lose the water surface temperature but the resolution doesn't appear to have been affected.  I can see a 1/2 oz drop shot and the soft plastic lure clearly with mine.

BTW:  Closed cell foam shouldn't loose any water.  I've used mine for 3 days straight without having to recharge the water.

Water temp should still be close to accurate.  At least it is on mine ... goop mounted on the inside.

On mine, (puck mounted) I get a pretty good reading of the temperature inside my hull.....  Hot and sunny = water temperature readings in the 80's+.

Demonick - That arm that you have your rod in, would that be compatable with a scotty gimbal mount?

Can someone show a picture of your transducer in the foam puck? A visual would be helpful.
Thanks, Dan
