You talkin bout me?!

Personally, for me, where I live, the stuff I like to do, SUP doesn't make sense. I think it looks like it might be mildly entertaining for an hour or so, but standing seems odd to me. I think I'm just to lazy because I enjoy sitting down. I don't feel I would gain any advantage by standing up and raising my center of gravity, using more energy to stand and keep balanced, and using more paddle power for less results. I just don't like standing I guess.

I do think that using a paddle while board surfing makes sense and looks sweet though.

SUP touring seems like a novelty to me and I just don't get it. I feel for me it would be a downgrade in performance, efficiency, and functionality.

To be quite honest, I don't get SUP's at all. I get it if you're surfing, but everything else it seems like a lesser craft than a kayak, so I'm kind of dumbfounded.

Just an honest opinion. I'm not trying to upset any one!

what little water time I've gotten this fall has been on a SUP. Definitely a different beast, but simple & fun. They won't be replacing my kayak, but do make a nice alternative. In some settings, I actually prefer them. I've used several different paddles, but my favorite so far has been the Werner Nitro. Light & stiff carbon. Smaller blade face than most others out there, so I can set a quicker cadence, and less torque on my shoulders. Also less kick to the blade angle, so enters the water a bit easier for me. Bending Branches also makes a nice wooden paddle. I tried a couple of C4 paddles last week & liked them as well, although I preferred their smaller blade faces.

I can see the benefits for fly fishing, where it is better to stand. I've seen a SOT/SUP hybrid from some one but can't remember who. Pretty sure it's Native. With the interchangeable paddle you'd get the option of both.

Just seems standing is an awkward mode of transport I guess.
