The Nothing and I headed out to the Willy before the meet up yesterday for some sturgeon. We were on the water by 2 and after a short paddle we were anchoring up at his spot. There were plenty of people plunking from the shore and a handful of boats in the area when we got there, but they all left after a couple of hours. Seems we got there right before high tide and so everyone left once the tide started going out. I ended up landing my first two sturgeon ever so I had a great time. They were both on the short side with the biggest of the two coming in at 31" fork length. I definitely should have worn some waders instead of bare feet and dive booties! It is most certainly that time of year again!  ::)  Isaac was testing out his new... umm... compact fishing rod? :icon_scratch: I guess I can't remember what he called it, but it looks to have a lot of promise, especially for jigging off the coast for rockfish. Thanks again to Isaac for showing me the ropes and putting me into some fish!

Ugly and fun.  Dino's I mean.  And that new compact rod thingy has some potential.

Cool! I plan to get into sturgeon fishing this Fall/Winter.

Thanks for the shots of the undersized fish. They helped me finally conclude that the sturgeon I caught several years ago in a Grays Harbor trib was a Green Sturgeon. It was almost exactly 42" long (nose to tip of tail fins, old method of measuring), snakier looking than those, and a greenish-bronze color. Had a different look to it than those juvenile Whites in the pics.

That was back when you could still keep a Green. I kept it, ate a fresh piece, and smoked the rest. Was ono-riffic!

That was the only one I ever caught! And it was by accident, since I wasn't even fishing for sturgeon at the time!

Greens have a stripe on the belly too...

I had a pretty rough day on the water, but had fun once I gave up fighting my anchor.  Was fun to see Yaknitup catch his first sturgeon just a few feed away from me.  He handled it well!
