I wont be able to kayak fish this weekend, but I can certainly point you in the right general direction. Shoot me a PM with what you have in mind and I'll see what I can do to help.

Fil from Tacoma, looking for places to fish on the Sound.

Welcome aboard!

Anything special, or just fish period? There's a few of us in your area that get together on the regular. I'd happy to let you know when I'm fishing local water's next.

To get you started... American Lake can be a good smallmouth lake, but there is a ton of bi-catch that goes along with that (mostly rockbass). Try dragging inline spinners like #2 Vibrax, or 2" Rapalas in rainbow trout color for trout. You can find them from bank to bank. Target the top couple feet of the water column. I seem to do best near the condos on the north end of the lake. Stay within 50-75 yards of the shore once the powerboats and jet skis get bad, and you'll typically stay on the bite. If you launch from Sunnyside Park in Stelicoom you'll find an endless supply of flounder. Getting your boat to the water will require a set of wheels, or a a strong back and a couple of trips to and fro the car for gear. Starting anyday now you can jig for kings just north of there in front of the 1st dock you see. Just look for the crowd of power boats and you'll be in the right area. For the flounder I like small Gulp plastics. My typical rig is a 1oz freshwater leadhead with a 3" Gulp swimming mullet. I've found dropshot rigging a Gulp smelt on a #2 hook and a 1oz dropshot weight outfishes the 3" mullet though. For the king jigging, 3-4oz Point Wilson Dart, or Crippled Herring jigs in some flavor of green will get the job done. I'll give you a heads up next time I'm fishing local if you want to meet up. There's a few other guys you might be able to hook up with between now and then too. They'll likely chime in later.

Welcome Fil!  I'll be looking to jig for those Chambers Creek "cookie cutter" kings around mid-August. Hope to meet up with you and others out there.
Great advice Rav..done all that in a PB, can't wait for my first salmon from the kayak.

Thanks for the tips, last week I fished Point Defiance and caught bout a 25# Native and a 14# hatchery king jigging Point Wilson Darts, but once the current started moving  it made it a little dicey, so i was looking for places where the tide doesnt flow so strong.

I'm in Bonney lake as well.  We used to do these pretty regular, but the past couple times was just me and Ravdakot.
I'm in.

I know rev mentioned Lacey, but my place is big enough for hosting and I have plenty of garage space if anyone wants to bring a yak to mess around with drillin' and cuttin' while we shoot the proverbial S.
