Those would be dory boats. They have a flat bottom for landing/launching from the beach and a high bow to aid in punching through the surf. That town has a lot of pride in their dory fleet.

They are even more impressive to watch going out as well as coming in.  I've launched off that beach once in a 13' Dory that a PC friend of mine built back in Highschool.   HOLY CRAP that was fun!   My current neighbor has an 18' Dory that he has yet to launch from there.  I'm still trying to talk him into getting his Toyota Tundra wet.

You should let me know when you finally convince him!  ;)

No kidding.  Let him get the Dory through the surf zone, then we paddle through the surf zone, and then hop on board and he could tow a few yaks out via the mother ship.

That sounds fun. Has anyone had their yak towed by a pb? I've heard you really have to watch out for rolling the yak while under tow. I'd definitely want to make sure all gear was well stowed.  I wouldn't want the adventure to get unpleasantly expensive.

I heard RR was rigging his yak with a sail.

I've tried towing mine with my sled and at anything but trolling speed it is not stable, mine tended to move round (fish tailed, dug in, felt a little rolly) a lot and I didn't like the ride. Might be fun on a warm lake just for grins but I would pass on the tow in the salt.

Yeah, I wouldn't ever try to be towed by a pb on my yak unless it was a very slow tow. They just aren't designed for high speeds. One subtle pull to one direction and that thing would flip pretty quick. It would be nice though to have a couple of small stackable kayaks that would fit on the back of a dory for a piggy-back!
