I just got my new Humminbird 570.
I would like to mount it without drilling too many holes.
I've seen two different systems using a PVC pipe to hold the transducer on the side of a kayak.
Is there more? I have done search and can't find any.
Thanks
Frank

This is what I did it works great
I used plastic weld epoxy to hold in place sand the crap out of everything
Then sealed the edges inside and out with marine goop
I mounted the trans. to the side of the bowl cut a tiny notch in the top edge for the wire and put marine goop on it to seal and hold in place
Just pour a half bottle of drinking water in there and put the lid on .It just doesn't give true temp. readings unless your on the water for a couple hours but the gps still works great. no holes no damage.

Most of us use either glue the transducer to the inside of our hull, or glue a piece of foam with a hole cut to the size/shape of the transducer and fill it with water. I personally have mine glued directly to my hull. look through the drilling and cutting section, and you'll find a few posts on this.

Here is an external mount that coosbayyaker posted.

Here is a how to video on gluing you transducer to your hull

Here's a video of the foam method.

Frank,
If temperature readings are important to you (they are to me), I have a couple of ideas, similar to CBY's installation, that put your transducer in the water. What kind of kayak do you have?

Hi Karl
I have Adventure.
My idea is to mount the FF on a RAM so it can be tilted, with a box for AA rechargeable batteries underneath and a bracket or a pipe going down to the water with the transducer.

CBY's FF mount works great. A real nice piece of ingenuity for the Outback. YN's take on it also seems to work really well on his Outback too. The Adventure doesn't have a bev. holder in that spot so might not work out the same way. I'm sure there is a way to use the same concept though. Sounds like you might have an idea already.

I just kinda ran into this video tonight by accident and thought the extender arm they have might give ya something to work from for an idea.

Yep what they all already said works great, especially CBY's for what you want to do. But my solution is both simpler and more complex.  :confused2:

Simpler in that I just jamb the transducer against the bottom of the hull with a pool noodle. No glue, so you can move it readily from boat to boat.

That works especially well in the Adventure as the nub under the seat for the seat plugs fits nicely into the hole in the pool noodle, securing the whole assembly in place. Sonar sensitivity does not seem to be affected, but the temperature does read a couple of degrees off.

Which is why I have this complication:

The sensor has a 20' cord. I attached a 2oz ball and a length of 30lb powerpro that's just shorter than the cable (so there's no load on the wire) and rolled the whole thing up on a line spool. Now I've got not only a more accurate surface reading, but the temp 18' or so down as well.

BTW: That temperature reading was from Henry Hagg in August. So I'm not trying to yank y'alls chain about how cold it is up there.

(although it is currently 78o outside) ;D

They say, there should not be any air between the transducer and the hull (water).

"They" are right!

But apparently, the mechanical joint between the transducer and the hull forms a good enuf couple for the sonar signals to pass unfettered. A bit of vasaline probably would not hurt, but it's been working like that for the last 4 years or so just fine. :dontknow:

"They" may not be taking into account our thin plastic hulls.

It's not much going on on the forum lately.
Anybody planning for some fishing when the weather gets reasonable.
Need to test FF and downrigger.
