if you look at Demonick's link, it mentions that the data for the example map was gathered with an Cuda 250 in about a half hour.

And I actually don't know anything about burning or exploding batteries thank you very much! >:(

(wires? well, that's another matter) ::)

this makes things interesting, cause ya can also do the same thing with hummibirds and garmins... plus both those mfrs have accessories that allow you to network your ff with other gizmos... this would be a great idea for a weekend when ya just want to paddle your favorite body of water... plug all the components into the network below deck on your boat, close the hatches, and paddle the pond ( lake, creek, whatever) then go home and download it to your puter to study it.

put it another way, you'd be making your own custom nav charts!!

craig, did anyone help you un geek this yet?

Unfortunately not.  I'd like to see it all hooked up and working, as well as the end result directly from one of our fellers here.  FFTW, go ahead and throw one of these gizmo's together and see if you can get some data.  ;)

ok, think of it as doing a run up and  network test after fixing one of your robots.. using a sd card full of test parameters...

then using the add on box to download the test results and transfer them to a graphing program on your shop puter...

I dunno about using the pocket PC, that's going one step further than I was. I was just storing the data and then loading it into some sort of graphing program (excel?) to kick out a graph on land. The pocket PC may be able to do that on the water.

You may already be recording the data that we are looking for on the FF's card. Humminbird has HumminbirdPC and it does something (?) but it does not appear to produce a map.  What it does do is read stored gps information from the FF and that may include depth. I dunno, but this is where my eyes blur over and I start calling for Mr. Wizard's rescue. ???

Wonder if an 8GB ipod touch would work with this thing.  I don't know anything about the Touch, other than my daughter uses it to play video games and watch DVD's while traveling....However, when we bought our iMAC we also bought a year's worth of "one on One" ---Q&A consultation with Apple experts, hopefilly they will be able to look at the Dr Depth s/ware and advise as to the cheapest/smallest solution for an on-the-wter processor!

iPods can be set up in Data Mode, making your iPod an 8GB memory stick.  I don't think it can do anything with the data, but it can definitely store/transfer it for you.
