as a side note: amazon.com has the humminbird 788ci marked down from $649.99 to $564.13. not a huge savings ,but a nice one.

718's, which are B& W, can be had as low as $180.00

Thanks a ton everyone for the input. I just installed the cuda 350 and it was a piece of cake. I had never even touched a ff in real life before, so I got all worked up over nothing.

I didn't realize I was just gooping the foam to the hull to hold the transducer in place, that's a pretty easy shoot through mount and the ease of removing it is nice.

Thanks for the great how to posts. That made it easy.

This guys boat is siiiiiiick. I'm not really into SOT's and tons o gear, but this thing is awesome. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I'll add onto Nanook's thread. I am also currently looking for a fishfinder/gps. I was looking at the Lowrance M68 but then realized you couldn't put a chip into it for charting functions. I don't want to go to a full 5 inch screen, and I don't see many other combo units with a smaller profile yet chip ready. I am thinking about a Lowrance h20 c or expedition for $350 C (same hand held unit, basically) along with a Lowrance x67c for $130 C. Ideas or observations?

You can't put a chip in it, but the built in charts of the M56/M68 are surprisingly good for US waters. I'm not certain that they'd covered Baja California.

BUT, if memory serves me correctly, they had some pretty good charts for the Queen Charlotte Islands. I would not imagine that they'd skip the rest of BC :dontknow:

Well, like the Owl said to the little boy with the "Toosie Pop": "Let's find out!"
Guess I'll have to check.

If the built in charts for the M68 were decent, I would be happier with one unit. I'll ask the dealer here in Victoria.
