I am in the home stretch of finishing up my kayak trailer.  What I need now are some ideas for things folks have thought of needing or wanting on a trailer that would be nice to have.

Right now it has:
room for four yaks rigged upright
Tons of lockable "dry" (99%waterproof)  storage, including full length rod storage
Cooler rack, with room for (1) 40qt for food/etc (1) 100 qt for fish
working on gear wash down system tonight (low pressure hand pumped gear wash)
Place to filet catch, not sure where to put it? on top gear boxes would be messy but plenty doable. Leaning toward hinged fold down shelf off cooler rack. or?

What else have folks thought of needing/wanting

I haven't even thought of 1/2 the stuff you have.

Got any pics?

I was thinking a cheap utility trailer with some racks added to it would be awesome, but after reading your idea, and talking to CK76 about the trailer he's building, I've realized my ambitions were really small in this area.

Make sure it has a bottle opener mounted on the side.  Good beer never has twist offs. ;)

Something tells me when I see pictures of this I will be back in the shop making some improvements to my own.

Is this a dedicated kayak trailer or will it periodically be returning to it's duties as a utility trailer?

Oh shoot ... you reminded me.  I'm way behind in sending out the last batch of NWKA stickers.  If you ordered some and haven't received them yet, well, I'll get them out shortly.

What about a provision for a propane tank on the tongue?  You gotta have someplace to fuel the grill for shore lunch right?   >:D

I just commandeered an abandoned trailer from my neighbor's house (last registered 11 yrs ago and they left it when they were forclosed on a couple months ago) that I started working on as well.  It'll be dual use for yakking and camping.  I forgot about creating a spot for my rods- good idea!

I like all the ideas and want to see some pics of the projects! How about a retractable awning or a means to attach a good tarp for sun/rain cover?

Heres a sneek peek...

putting in the diamond plate rubber mat tomorrow.  15 gal  washdown tank w/pump and deep cycle battery... in the mail, proane tank and grill go on next month sometime, saddles?  who knows ??? I cant get a straight answer from Harbor County bike (There online..horrible customer service) I think I'll cancel my order for 4 land sharks and just use pads for now?

She should do well with 4 kayaks or take out the "t's" to haul 2 or 3.

I wonder if I could get a custom fit sheet of canvas to make it fully inclosed?

wont forget my NWKA sticker for good luck!

Brian

+ Dedicated cup (beer) holder.
+ LP tank holder mounted on the tongue.
+ Spare tire mount w/tire.
+ Group 31 sized deep cycle battery.
+ LED lights wired around fillet table, over the cooler and inside the dry storage boxes.
+ Small inverter ran off the battery to power an electric fillet knife, or vacuum sealer.
+ Carcass bucket with lid, plastic bag and bungee cord around the bucket to hold bag open.
+ Bucket holder to hold carcass bucket near the fillet table.
+ Paper towel holder, center pull or otherwise.
+ Lightweight towers that can be erected on either side of the fillet station to support a tarp for those rainy days.
+ Large and small ammo cans welded to the trailer for various lockable sealed storage boxes.

This stove is 185,000 btu's, enough to boil a 10 gallon crab pot in 5 minutes.

I think you need "kickstands" to hold the trailer in place, back 2 corners and under the tongue should work.

You NEED a Keg too!

Just rewired the whole trailer with new harness and all LED lights.  All wood has been replaced with synthetic lumber, all galvanized or stainless hardware too.  Both dry boxes equipped with drain plugs so they can be washed out with the hose, damn sand gets everywhere.
Still working on the "wash down" idea.  I have an old wash down pump from my PB but don't really want to mess with batteries, to much extra weight (water tank and Battery) and hassle. It needs to be light enough for one guy to easily move around, many places I fish it may be necessary to put the trailer in one parking space and the tow rig in another, often these places aren't level or paved and I don't want a "beast" of a trailer that can get away from me and t-bone some flat-landers minivan.  I want it battle ready without the worry of "is it charged" is the wiring corroded" "will it bog down due to weight in soft sand", just fill the tank and hook up and go.  I am leaning heavily toward the KISS answer, mounting a five gallon hand pressurized "Back pack sprayer" with a extended sprayer hose and modified nozzle. After all, I just need to rinse off the fillet table and spray "most" of the sand off the gear.  Heavy duty clean up can be done at home or back at camp. Hope to have it done and pics up by end of next week.
