Yeah, on an adventure.  Zee's old one.  I was noticing some guys do the transducer right in the water.  I am going through the hull.  Is the transducer much more sensitive when it's directly in the water or is there another reason for not going through the hull?

I've tried it both ways on the Revo on the same day, and changed over mid-day.  I saw no difference in the sensitivity nor surface clutter, but in both cases I was working the drive and in both locations the transducer was close to the drive.  The side wand did oscillate a little.  This is another reason I am not sure the flippers on the drive are inducing more surface clutter.  Mounting inside the boat is trivial - cut the foam, goop the foam, glue the foam, let it dry.  The only issue is routing the cable.  Since I am loathe to cut the cable, any holes drilled have to be big enough to pass the connector, then sealed up.  Right now I am routing the cable through the front hatch.

I mounted mine behind the drive and next time out I will run the FF with the drive working and take some screen shots, then take some screen shots while paddling with the flippers tight to the hull, then take some screen shots while paddling with the drive pulled.  Comparison should settle the issue of whether the drive has an effect on transducer performance.  If it does the transducer will get mounted through the stern hatch.

Mounting inside the boat is much more convenient though the temperature reading becomes rather useless.  Get a water thermometer and you can take temps at any depth.

Hit up Cone Islands Sunday.  Been meaning to get out there for quite some time - it's easy to get to by ferry to Guemes and then 2 mi crossing from county park on N. end. I had really high hopes for it, the chart showed good structure but there were NO lings! Lots of Rockfish tho. Weird, because I was at Clark on Saturday and it was a Ling-stravaganza.  I saw a few other boats out there and nobody was catching any lings.  Coulda been due to atmospheric conditions I suppose (miserable weather Sunday), or the fact it was a neap tide.  Does anyone have any experience with Cone Is. area?

Having said all that, I caught a really large Rockfish.  A shame they can't be retained.

Where's there's rocks, there's lings.

Rav and I have fished a spot thoroughly, making sure there were no lings before giving up on it.  We caught probably 15+ rockfish between the two of us (combination of two trips) and Saturday we both caught 1 Ling.  His was 21" and mine looked slightly smaller.

(our's were copper just like the one you're holding)

Good to know, I won't try it again this year.  We should hook up if you come up this way again!
