I'm going to go punch out some sandshrimp this morning. Might as well have the right bait for the job. Razor clam siphons are lousy bait for surf perch, no matter what anybody else tries to tell you. The sandshrimp outfish the clam parts by a factor of 50 to 1, easily.
Might have to mow some grass, too! Nice day, gotta go!

The perch have been biting pretty well down here in Tillamook county the last couple weeks. Have you tried any of the berkley gulp stuff for perch? I love the 2" sandworms, either red or camo. They catch fish as well or better than bait, and they stay on the hook forever. I think they outfish bait mainly because your line spends more time in the water, and less rebaiting. You can make dozens and dozens of casts when you're searching, and they stay put. You can usually get two or three fish on one bait before they get torn up too bad. The downside is price, 6 or 7 bucks for a packages of twenty, but one pack will last a good four or five outings though. I'm a DIY kinda guy thru and thru, I'm usually all about gathering my own bait, but these work so good and they are soooooo much easier to use than real bait, I think this is one case where store bought beats out the DIY ethic.
Good luck, Jonah

Haven't tried the sandworm yet.  You threading them fully on the hook, or front hooking them like you do a 2 inch curly tail?  Got to get my surf perch game on for the upcoming Sand Crab Classic Perch Tournament in Monterey.

Thanks. I'll give some of those powerbait sandworms a try. I had decent luck once with 2" power grubs in "pumpkinseed."  Another time, I got a small sculpin every cast with one of those grubs until it finally was torn from the hook.
Punching up sand shrimp with a tube is a lot of work! You need to tie them on the hook with fine copper wire or that "silly string" stuff.

Breakfast over, heading to the beach to bind and drown some sand shrimp.

Wind foercast now showing strong east winds at the harbor entrance for this Monday. I'll probably hit up a lake or the surf, instead.
I'm still looking for light/variable, southerly, or light westerly winds for fishing the jetty, and not raining.

I cut them in small pieces about 3/4" long, thread 'em and fish 'em just like grubbin'.

Ah, so you thread them.  I don't thread the grubs because I find they spin too much that way.  I front hook them.  Do you have any spin problems with the sandworms?

By "fish 'em" I meant presentation. I hook grubs like you.
The sandworm really doesn't have a top or bottom so spinning isn't a concern.

Here's a good pic:
