TXPaddler and I hit the jetty at Tillamook today. Weather was stellar, but we had 15-20mph winds from the East most of the day, and it made holding position along the jetty's well enough to keep a line vertical almost impossible. We got tired of getting pushed towards the ocean, so we paddled over to the North side and fished in the lee of the stacks by Barview. We both managed a few tiny lings, but the lunkers just weren't taking what we were showing today.
All in all a great day on the water.

Awesome that you guys were able to make it out on the water! Where did you launch from?

That must have been you guys I saw paddling along the 3 graces yesterday. I dropped some pots over in crab harbor, and tried for some perch on the south side, all for naught. Lots and lots of females and undersize crab, no keepers though, and I think it's a little early for the perch to be in the bay. Launching at the marina sounds like a good idea... I launched halfway down the bayocean spit, and had a looong paddle back against the wind.

3 graces...  we have always call them the sow and pigs ;D

The bigger lings are farther out the jetty.  I have fished it quite a bit and the bummer is the tides.  I paddle out there fish a while and before I know it the tide is pulling you out or pushing you in too much to fish effectively.  Farther inside where this is less of an issue the lings are mostly on the smallish side.  Nice day on the water though!

Are we talking about the little clump of rocks just out from the cg station on the inside of the channel marker, or the big ones right behind Lyster's? The little group that are under water on a big tide are the ones I know as sow & pigs, the tall ones right along the hwy behind Lyster's 3 graces. Probably splitting hairs either way, as they are not more than a couple hundred yards away from each other. There can be good perch fishing along the there in any case.

We started out further toward the ocean along the S. Jetty but got blown out. Couldn't get shelter from the E wind. We knew we were out of lunker territory, but it was the sacrifice we made to at least be able to get a line in the water. Wasn't until later in the afternoon when the incoming picked up and wind changed direction that it would've been doable, but by that time we were needing to head in.

It was a nice day, and if anything I found another great spot to do our "Full Immersion 2" sea kayak class. There's just enough going on with swell, current, eddies, rips & rocks to learn how to manage a boat in conditions, but nothing a advancing beginner couldn't handle with guidance.

That was us. We saw you as we were heading in, and for a second I thought about paddling across to say hello, but we were pretty tired at that point and decided to just kinda mooch our way back to the marina.

wind & wind waves were quartering from the E on the way to the jetties, but it's a pretty short paddle from the marina...maybe a mile to crab harbor.
