Do you have a personal minimum size limit for flounder?  I've caught and kept little flounders (<12") and they are hardly worth cleaning.  I am thinking of a personal minimum size limit of 15".  Thoughts?

Luhrs Beach is off I-5 and exit 111, (Hawks Prairie-Lacey) on the west side of Nisqually Flats. PM me if you would like specific directions, it would be great to have you join us. holt

here, you might want these maps.

http://www.kayaknw.org/Paddle/Luhr_Anderson.html

http://www.kayaknw.org/Paddle/Luhr_Nisqually.html

going south bound on I5, take the Nisqually exit, cross over the highway and proceed up the hill. [while on top of the over pass if you look far to your right you can just barely see the boat launch.]

at the top of the hill on Martin Way, turn right onto Meridian and follow it back across I5 to the 1st round about. you will see signs saying public fishing at the round about. follow them back approximately 3 miles, and you will find the boat launch.

bear in mind, the signs are just about 3/4 the size of a regular street sign, and not all of them are green.

to get there from Oly / Lacey (and even if you miss the Nisqually exit and take the Hawks Prairie exit  :o) get on Martin Way and follow it north to the top of Nisqually Hill, and make a Left onto Meridian, then follow the signs as above.

hope this helps.

Good luck to you Holt. I wish I was in town to join you. I have yet to get skunked on flounder launching at luhrs beach. Just be patient with them. They will peck your jig/bait half a dozen times before committing. Looking forward to your results.

Holt,

Just to be clear, you meant Tue. 3-2-10 and not Mon. 3-1-10.  Correct?

If at first you don't succeed....  maybe skydiving is just not for you.

Sorry SQ missed your post some how?
I'm open to just about anything... allthough it seems like it's a bit early for the trout bite?? Maybe the salt (flounder etc.) would be more productive??
I'm itching to get that elusive "First Fish" on my yak.
But really I'm open to just about anything that's about 1.5 hrs from Vancouver.
I'm willing to tag along and learn the ropes. :)

Its not too early for the trout bite.  I did catch a 24" rainbow less than 3 weeks ago in American Lake   ;)

If it's cold, and you'll have sun that day, don't go out first thing in the morning.  Give the sun time to warm the shallows, then troll the top 5 feet of water (the big predators usually hide just under the convergence zone or near shore where they can find active baitfish).  Focus on the side of the lake that the wind last blew all the food to.

I'm sure there are other opinions, theories, techniques, etc., but that worked well for me.
