Starting a thread to introduce myself here; Found my way via WashingtonLakes.  I recently picked up my first kayak 2 wks ago and am in the process of outfitting myself for kayak fishing.  Hope to meet some fellow kayak anglers to pickup tips and team up on the water.  I'm based in Spokane and will be mostly fishing Spokane area lakes; Can't bring myself to spring for the Idaho license just yet since I feel like we've got so many nice bodies of water ourselves.  Anyways, a quick hello and hope to see some of you on the water.  I'll probably be hitting Silver and Liberty lakes in the near future; If you see an angler in an orange Tarpon 100 feel free to say hi.

Welcome to NWKA, don't let them fool you, there are several Eastern WA residents who have been transplanted to the greener clime on the west side of the Mountains. I was born & raised in Spokane, been in Seattle area about 9 years now.

Enjoy the many lakes around, and happy bass, trout and pan fish, fishing. ;D

Thanks for the welcome.  Yeah, the intial plan was to live/work closer to saltwater (my preference), but the job, cost of living and weather dictated Spokane.  If money ever becomes no object, perhaps I'll make it to the coast yet.

So where are you Eastern WA kayakers?  Too busy going down rapids and no fishing?

Welcome JayK.  I like eastern WA a lot and have a Walleye/Bass/catfish Moses Lake/Potholes kayak trip planned for the May time frame, then Ellensburg for some trout fly fishing in June.  Banks and Roosevelt Lakes should be in your area of operation.  Let us know how you're rigging your yak.

Jay, I am new too, and live in the Valley.  I have been to Liberty several times the past few weeks since the opened the trout season early there.  We need to see about getting a East Side gang going and get some good coontacts/outings set up.  I will probably go for the Idao li=cense as well, its only $100 and a couple of those lake have great reps.
When in doubt, throw a line out!

Thanks for the welcome to all the NWKA-er's on the site.

Glad to see one E. Washington kayaker reply.  Harvey, I haven't had a chance to rig up my kayak yet or get her in the water.  I'm still picking up gear and hoping to jerry rig some rod holders.  I don't want anything permanent on my Tarpon 100 (no drilling holes/etc), but the yak's got this slide trax system.  A pre-drilled beam that fits on the slide trax system costs ~$70-80, however I found some DIY-er's that have found toilet flange bolts to work in conjunction with a cutting board to self-rig a system.  I'm going to do that w/ some scotty rod holders.  Also, gotta find some way to rig up my fish finder which doubles as my ice fishing flasher too.  The Cabela's guy sold me on a Lowrance x67c system after I'd already purchased a Humminbird Ice35.

Any luck on Liberty off your yak?  You trolling?

Jay K,

I was over in Spokane just last week.  I'm afraid that I overshot eastern Washington though, and now I'm stuck for an indefinite period clear over on the east coast of the U.S.

Okay, that's not that useful to you, I'm sure.  But here's some input for you that just might be of actual use... A few years ago, when this forum was still brand new, there was a small bunch of E. Washingtonians that came over here to W. Wa. and walked away with the first ever NWKA fishing derby kayak.  We W. Wa. kayakers were humbled that day, I can tell you.

So any way, the part that's important to you is that I'm pretty sure that those four guys were all from Curlew, Wa., which is about 120 mi. from Spokane but definitely on the east side.  The one that I'm thinking that made off with the new kayak went by the handle "Riverbase" and another went by "Jason".  If you'll look them up in the NWKA member data base, you can find email addresses for both.  Don't know if those addresses still work since that was almost 3 years ago, but it's probably worth a try.

If at first you don't succeed....  maybe skydiving is just not for you.

Welcome to the board, Jay. Though an old addict, I haven't been on the board much in recent months due to a hectic personal life.

I think I'm the member from Twisp that squidgirl mentioned. It's more than a little ways from Spokane- about 4 hours. Methow Valley, along the East Slope of the North Cascades.

Marilyn, say "hi" to Ranger Rick for me, if you see him (He's the head ranger for the park). Pearrygin will probably be a zoo for the opener. PM me if you want some local intel. I might be able to get out for a little, one day of that weekend.
