June
The Oregon Rockfish Classic Depoe Bay, OR
Saturday June 19th
Tournament HQ will be at Chinook Bend Resort where we'll have a group camp spot for the tournament and also have an indoor space "The Big Red Barn" for our potluck and awards ceremony. Format is single heaviest fish, prizes for the top ten. I've gone to the local shrine and prayed to the weather gods so let's hope for good ocean conditions.

We have two new additions to the tournament schedule starting with:

July
The Cape Disappointment Dungie Tournament & Crab feast
Date: July 24th
Location: Waikiki Beach (Cape Disappointment, WA)
Tourney times: 6AM launch 12PM weigh in
12 crab limit with a minimum size limit of 5 3/4" (Dungeness)

This will be a team event where two people team up and work together to get the heaviest 3 crab total. We'll have a few pots boiling and each entrant can donate how ever many crabs they want to the communal pots. We'll chow down with provided sourdough bread, drinks, and clam chowder. Afterward prizes will be given out to the winners.

August
The NWKA Fall Salmon Challenge Youngs Bay, OR
Saturday August 21st
Youngs Bay is a large protected area of water near Astoria where big Nooks roam. Format is single heaviest fish, prizes for the top ten.

August
The Moutcha Bay Tyee Kayak Fishing derby
August 28th-29th
Will be the end of the road of our tourney season. Same place but different date than last year. For those of you who are into traveling to the Great White North for some solid chinook action this is a tournament not to be missed!

Please hang tight for specific details about each tournament including camping and tourney HQ. Each tournament will have a separate thread with more detailed information.
Thanks,

NWKA Staff

What could be better than camping, fishing, potlucks, award banquets and friendly competition?

I'd answer, but this isn't the Chum Bucket!

Sweet!

Lee - if the driving seems too much, you can paddle around to each event...

I would, though, suggest someplace in the Sound for the Crab Derby.  Legal size limit is larger.

Will it be necessary to have an Oregon license to fish the Youngs Bay tournament???

Since fishing is in the Columbia, your WA license should be fine and dandy.  You can launch on either side of the river, so long as you're fishing is done in the river.

Actually, I believe that Young's Bay is considered to be a tributary.  You could launch there and make the slog to the other side of the Hwy 101 Bridge across Young's Bay (about a mile I believe) to avoid having to buy an Or License.

Good question. I think Spot's right. Youngs Bay is off the mainstem of the Columbia so could be some technicalities. I put in the question in w/ Ed at the ODFW and will get the official word.

I selfishly vote Netarts bay for the crab tourney.  It would be cool if folks could crab "outside" in the ocean if they wanted to.  If its in Netarts I can front all the bait and a crab keg and a couple of cookers too.

Good call on June for the Rockfish Classic.
I'll be walking down the isle though for the Fall Salmon Challenge so it looks like I'm out on that one.  ::)

I assume that for the youngs bay salmon tourney that it is the starting point/launch/weigh in location?  and if one wanted to paddle out and fish the columbia nearby that would be ok?  Not that hot of fishing in youngs bay proper.  I have fished the Bouy 10 area for many years and the youngs bay area is a ghost town when the fish are in.  Where are we thinking of launching from?
