Well it sure felt good to get back out on the ocean!

Thanks to FishSniffer for hosting the day, I had a lot of fun!

Met up with Ling Banger in Depoe Bay at around 7am and we were on the water, passing through the channel at about 7:30. It was a little nerve racking passing the bar, but we slipped out pretty easy.  Once we were through, we were met by a washing machine of refracted waves close to the cliffs and the channel so hanging close and working the kelp wasn’t an option.  So we headed out between the reefs and were greeted by towering breakers on the north reef.

We turned north and were being pushed by a north bound current and an offshore breeze coming from the south west.  For the most part, it was pretty choppy throughout the day with the wind waves around two feet.  We couldn’t find any promising structure and decided to head back closer in and then continue back toward the bell buoy to the south.  It was slow going to get back there, but we did it eventually.

Once we got closer in to the bell buoy I picked up my first black for the day… actually for the year.   :hello2:
Shortly after that, Chris, FishSniffer and Yaksurf showed up.  The winds by this time had died down a little and became variable in direction.  Everyone pretty much stayed in close to the bell buoy for the rest of the day, working the north and south reefs.  It seemed to be slow for the most part.

I ended up getting my two lings for the day in addition to a few underlings, the bigger of the two was 27”.  I ended up with a couple of decent sized blacks and released a handful of small ones.

Thanks to everyone that showed up, it was great seeing you all!

I got some video from the day and I'll follow up with that once I get it put together.

Glad you guys had fun.  We'll have to do it again.

The new yak is a bit tippy but I'll get used to it.  Had difficulty getting the drive to seat and it popped out once on the pond.  Wondering if that's normal.
