During the past few weeks I've had a couple of opportunities to fish for BIG smallies over on the eastside.

On Saturday, March 27th, my son, Ryan and I fished an area that was new to both of us. Combined, we landed 5 fish (one 19", two 18", one 17", and one 16").

I fished the same area again on Saturday April 10th, landing 6 (one 20.5", two 19", one 18", and one 17"). A few photos from both days are shown below.

March 27th
I know this photo of Ryan's 18" smallie looks "photoshopped", but it's not. The fish looks gigantic because of the wide angle lens I was using.

Nice, 'NY! I'm sure there are bigger ones around, too.

Might be time to start scouting for some bugeyes in that vicinity.

I'm heading east the second week of May for a few days of kayak fishing.  I don't keep bass, they all get C&R'd.  So, if you share the location my efforts won't decrease the population  :)

I'll be in the Moses Lake/Potholes area, and would welcome any location/bait tips for bass and walleye.

Karl's fishing hole is at least a couple of hours north of Potholes/Moses Lake. Not to worry- there are lot's of places around Eastern WA with fish like those. The Columbia and all the big impoundments have big smallies, and a bunch of smaller waters do, too. I don't know either Moses or Potholes very well, but I would probably start by looking in the dunes at the north end of Potholes. You'll also find LMBs and maybe some walleyes, too.

Roy,
I'd definitely like to head down there again at some point, but it will probably have to be a late summer trip this year. BTW, it's good to see that you're back online. For a while there you were posting about as often as I do.... which means almost never  ::)
